My son has been accepted to University of Alabama. He is the only student in his high school who even applied but I would imagine that with the generous scholarships there must be many other New Jersey students. Anyone with any knowledge on this? Just wondering.
Jersey in the House! Yes, we are here. My DD is a freshman and we are from central Jersey. There are quite a few of us, albeit from many parts of the state. Alabama has a very active parent community and besides here on CC, look into Facebook groups, another great source of info (Just avoid some of the open groups which have some not-so-nice folks) The class of 2020 FB is up and running and feel free to join.

Good luck to your son as he makes his decisions. My daughter loves it!
One of my college roomies was from Ocean City, NJ. He fell in love with UA and stayed in Alabama after graduating.
The 2015 numbers aren’t out yet, but last year there were nearly 400 students from New Jersey.
Mom2collegekids Could you tell me where I can find the enrollment breakdown by state (2014 numbers are fine). My parents are curious. Thanks
I happen to keep that URL handy (2014 enrollment breakdown by state - new undergraduates - which would be freshmen for the most part): http://oira.ua.edu/d/webreports/enrollment2/Fall_2014/f18.html
http://oira.ua.edu/d/webreports/enrollment2/Fall_2015/e10.html
This URL gives FALL 2015 data for all of the university (not just freshmen).
DS is a senior from NY. His girlfriend is from NJ. They met freshman year sharing a ride to the airport, ended up on the same flight. Stayed friendly over the years, started dating this year. You never know.
Thanks for the link
The percentages from the northeast are surprising, hopefully these numbers can sway my dad from thinking that they are still in the civil war…

You can also go onto UA’s Dean’s lists for previous semesters and see where those students come from (including their names). http://uanews.ua.edu/tag/deans-list/ Happy stalking!
My son is from Morris County, NJ and is a sophomore. He is the only person from our high who has ever attended Bama and is very happy there. I don’t know anyone else from NJ but I am on the Facebook page for parents where I find oout lots of info. Love the football games!
Lots and lots of NJ Plates to be seen roaming the streets. New Jersey is at UA in force.
If Naviance is correct, DS was first and only applicant to UA from our NJ HS.
I met about a dozen NJ Parents at the Class of 2019 NYC/NJ send off party. Adrianne Dias is the NNJ recruiter that organize the event. She told me that her area shows a consistent upward trend of students that decided UA was their college of choice. I recommend contacting her directly with questions.
UA recruiters can be found here: http://gobama.ua.edu/states/new-jersey/
Roll Tide!
Read this article featured prominently on the front page of the New York Times website as I write. Shows a breakdown by state in the graphics that accompany the article and ends with the story of a NJ family that’s now sending daughters #2 and #3 (twins) who are following their older sister to Bama:
wow, thanks so much!
^ and check out the slideshow. Photo of my son with his NJ girlfriend.
Reading the comments section in the article, it makes one wonder how much hate people out there have for Bama. So much of it is hate for success, hate for the fact that the football program is successful and that it’s helping the students tremendously. So many lies about the school. I’m sure they have no issues with the Ivys and their huge endowments, but no merit scholarships to be had.
@NoVADad : welcome to life as an Alabamian.
As to the OP’s remark about the War Between the States, AKA the War of Northern Aggression and the Late Unpleasantness…it’ll be over when Yankees quit bringin’ it up!
Don’t read the comments. It’ll keep your blood pressure way more healthy.
NoVADad99, I have to laugh reading those comments.
What is this babble of the South and Alabama being full of “bigots”, “racists”, “ignorant”, etc from people that have never stepped foot in the state of Alabama, the campus of UA much less in any Southern state?
If one is calling others they have never met such names, seems a bit hypocritical. If one is expecting others to be tolerant, would they not also need to be tolerant of these same people?
The ugly sure reared its head in the comments section of that article.
Oh, and the ones that kept asking about the lacke of african americans in the pictures. Well, they did not show no more than a half dozen people. Even if they had each one a different race, it would still leave some people out. SMH!
