I currently have a cheap netbook (it was seriously $100) that is 6 years old. My parents won't even allow me to install MS office on it because they think it is that terrible of a computer that is doesn't deserve it. I need to have a computer for school (and summer programs!) and was debating if I should purchase one now or suffer until college. I'm currently looking at a Toshiba and was wondering if it would last a full 6+ years. Any suggestions as to what I should do would be appreciated.

I currently have a toshiba that has lasted 3 ish years now, although mine is breaking, mainly due to me being irresponsible but it still works perfectly as it pertains to schooling . Get a higher end toshiba if you do get one

May I ask which model you have? I’m currently considering the Satellite C855DS5135 15.6in model.

You will regret the C855DS5135 if you want it to last 6 years. The A6-4400M processor is adequate for today, but it will be too slow for web browsing and video in the years to come.

The processor isn’t really that bad (2.7 GHz, 3.2 turbo) so I don’t see how bad it could be in a few years. None the less, which model would you suggest instead of the C855DS5135?

I’m not going to suggest anything. But you should be aware that raw clock speed does not really tell you how fast a processor is. You might want to poke around cpubenchmark when deciding on a computer.

Ok, thank you!
