new laptop?

Heyguys,
i need laptop, can you guys give me some rec's?
-screen size, between 12-15 inches
-less than $ 1,000
-wireless internet
-battery power, more than 4 hours
-dosne't get hot
-DON"t need DVD/games/music/gaming/PS2 port
-good screen resolution
-fast
-5 poounds or less
-new
-has USB/printer ports
-a CDdrive that also functions as a re-write
-decent memory

I'm mostly gonna use this for writing/journalism/web browsing, but i need one with a pretty good speed, light, good/decent memory.

Does this kind of laptop even exist?
I want the faster speed, plus the lightweight and long battery, but all the laptops i've seen that have those features also have bunch of gaming/DVD/music burning/graphics features that i'll NEVER, EVER, use, and plusthe raise the price ofthe laptop to over1,500! Does this kind of laptop exist or am i dreaming?

i posted this also in anotherthread, but i figured parents would have more info

Through www.refurbdepot.com , I got a Compaq Presario XL 1130, with 80 meg drive, 3 USB ports (I actually use them), CD/DVD play, CD write, 1 meg memory, 4.5 hour batter, 15.4" screen, wireless Internet, for $1,000. Weighs in at 6.5 lbs though. My uses are the same as yours - I'm a writer. Mine was to replace the desktop, and I wanted the larger screen even if it is a bit heavier. GREAT keyboard.

You can get Averetecs with weights in the four-bound range, and various screeen sizes, and meeting all your needs, from them at prices in the $750-$900 range.

Incongnita:

check out the advertisements in today's newspapers. Here in SoCal, several places have early bird specials at 6:00 am tomorrow. For example, one local retailer has a Toshiba 330, Celeron M processor, 1.4GHz speed, 256 DDR SDRAM, 15" screen, 40GB hardisk, DVD/CD-RW, all for $499 after intstant rebate! Don't know about battery life, but at that price you could buy a second batt and still be under your price point.

Went through this earlier this year. At lower price points Toshibas get the nod for most reliable, with Compaq and HP scoring for features/speed per dollar.

Toshiba's make very very very nice laptops.. that 500 dollar laptop will behave better than a 1000 dollar dell laptop.. Toshiba's work very well, and around this time of year they are very affordable. I got mine at this time last year for like 600 dollars off regular price. I'd reccomend them to anybody.
