New Life in U.S. But How?

I am from South Korea and will be graduating from high school soon. I didn't not make into any college in Korea and, as a result, I am considering moving to America. I want to get into MIT, Stanford, or UC Berkeley. However, I do not know where to start. I am considering to apply to University of Wisconsin Greenbay first and then try to transfer. Is this a good idea? I dont think i should apply right now because i have no extracurricular activities. Should I just go to a community college and then transfer where I could get a good gpa easier or should i attend University of Wisconsin Greenbay. Also, if i do attend UW Greenbay, should i enroll in the ESL program? How would ESL look when I apply to other universities as a transfer student. I would appreciate feedback.

IIf you are fluent in speaking English (and proficient in writing) there is no need to enroll in ESL. My advice would be to try community college and transfer. If you feel confident that you can get into UW, then go for it.

Umm, I wouldn't be so sure about that. I took some esl classes and they were helpful in building confidence and vocabulary.

I'm not sure how competitive college admissions arein Korea, but if you didn't make it into 'any' college in Korea, your chances may be a bit on the lower side. Of course your app may be wonderful r the Korean system may be different.

MIT, is super competitive, especially for internationals. If you didn't get into ANY college in Korea, than you might want to re-evaluate your plans in the United States, so that you don't dissapoint yourself if you come to the U.S.

Isn't it a little late for admissions?

'any college in korea'
do you mean, any college in Seoul?
(FYI for non-koreans, getting into a college in Seoul is extremely EXtremely competitive. For other uni's outside of Seoul, it's not really / slightly competitive).

If the deadline has not passed for Wisconsin, I think you should apply. There are many other colleges out there with Feb 1st and 15th deadlines so look out for those too. I'm not sure how much UW is for intels but Im guessing over 30k.. and im not sure how much CC costs for intels but I'm guessing it's cheaper? So really, think about the money.
I know this chinese intel guy who went from NZ to a community college in the US and transfered after x number of years (i cant remember), to Penn wharton... So it is definetly not impossible to transfer from a cc to a selective college.

I think u should give it a try. Don't get into communnity college. I don't think thats a good idea. Get into a good college and face the challenge. Good Luck!

yeah, I heard how tough it is to get into a university in Seoul...
It's like, in Korea, college prestige is decided by location.. heh.
I'd say go for anything other than missing a year of college life. I've heard the tales of jae soo saengs (those who fail to go to college in their first year and preparing for the next year), and they suffer much :P.
