Hi, I recently bought a new macbook pro (last week), and bought windows 7 today. I want to install windows on a mac... so how does this work? Do i just install from the disk? On a new partition? help!

Go to your applications folder, then utilities, then finally boot camp assistant. It will guide you through the process of repartitioning your HDD and installing windows. Its super easy to get up and running. You could also try out parallels, vmware, or virtual box to run windows inside of Mac OS X instead of booting up your computer entirely into windows. With these applications, you can run windows programs right along side your Mac apps with little to no slow down. Its a pretty neat set up for about $75 for Par. or Vmware. Virtual Box is free, but is also has much less features and is really just an app for using the whole windows desktop while running in Mac OS.

It may sound confusing, but just go out and look at the different products and you should be able to see what you’d need. Do bootcamp first though. Its a very easy install and can be quickly deleted if you don’t like it from inside OSX.

I don’t get why people buy a Mac to install Windows on it…

Its nice to have the option though, isn’t it? Not every program out there is available for both PC and Mac, so the option to use windows when you need it is tremendous. Saves you from buying a mac and then turning around and buying a windows PC just for one program. Its also great for PC games that aren’t available for Mac

Wait, can you have Mac software and Windows 7 installed and switch back and forth or something? I wouldn’t think this would be possible, but then again, I’m not knowledgable about computer tech stuff

Yeah you can. You can either have a seperate partition with windows on it that you can choose to boot off of instead of Mac OS X at start up or you can buy software that lets you install Windows inside of OSX and use windows programs while you’re normally using your mac.
