My son is also going to be attending College Park in the fall and as I understand it, if you don’t use the dining dollars in one semester they are not transferred to subsequent semesters. However, you can load up money in a Terrapin Express account which can be used at all of the same dining locations (plus more) and the money will stay on the card forever. At the end of four years you can cash out whatever is remaining. The dining dollars do have a slight discount but I’m not sure that it’s worth the risk. Can anyone verify my understanding?
@Soon2BeClass2020 - Your understanding is correct. The old plans had meals, points, and bucks and none of it rolled over. My D doesn’t like the new plans, but she’s moving to an apartment next year, so it doesn’t affect her much.
Terp Express is pretty easy to set up and it can be used for laundry too.
You may also want to get your son a Metro SmartTrip card. At some point, he’ll probably need, or want, to go into DC and having the card in advance makes things easier.
Thank you for the suggestions @SoofDad ! Why doesn’t your daughter like the new plans?
@Soon2BeClass2020 - Under the old plans, students could get food to go, from the Diner, to take back to their room. My D liked to do that on occasion. That option seems to be gone from the new plans
