New Medical School in CT

The Netter School of Medicine at Quinnepiac. Anybody know anything about it?

From what I’ve read, the school is focusing on training primary care physicians. If you do not have any desire to enter primary care, I would be careful about looking at the school, especially if you do not know what the placement of their medical students into specialties. Don’t be afraid of all the hype that you hear about the over supply of specialists. Who is going to take care of patients when specialists retire. I can assure you that primary care physicians do not have the training nor will they even consider taking the extra Responsibilities of taking care of complex patients, especially in the current malpractice environment.

Here’s an interview with the Assoc Dean of Admissions, Michael Ellison, about the new school’s mission and focus:

The school has just admitted it’s first class of 60 students who will begin classes this fall.

Do they have any endowment? Will they be able to offer any financial aid to students?

According to their FA page

hi ill explain,

i actually live in that town and interviewed some of the people who started the medical school for my school newspaper

A) the school it is part of, Quinnipiac, has very weak programs in both bio and chem
B) it will be extremely expensive. the undergrad itself costs 65k per year (more than any ivy)
C) acceptance rate is weird-they only accepted 5 people for the medical school for its first year
D) no one in the industry has heard of it yet so its not a great option

i would apply to many medical schools but quinnipiac should be on the bottom of your list

the school got over 5000 applications for 90 spots for Fall 2014. I think they can afford to be very choosy. Excellent program. Many of the new schools are superb. For more information search the school specific threads on the Student Doctor Network website.

If the school’s accredited, you have no worries. Other than the small detail of getting accepted(that’s one scary applicant to student ratio). Frankly(as a non-physician) I think it would be fun and exciting to attend a new medical school. You’re blazing a trail!
