Yup, one week and three days from now, I’ll hopefully be upping that ACT score by two points. Thanks for the chance!

I’ll admit, that made me lol. But are are completely right.

As for essays, Vanderbilt oddly, but fortunately, only uses the common app one. I will be starting on that one after the ACT, so although it will win no Pulitzer’s, it will be very good.

Vanderbilt - Low Reach
NYU - Match
U of I-Champaign - Low Match
Colgate - Match
Purdue - Safety
U Chicago - Reach

ACT Math score is lowish. Bump that up 2-3 points and you should definitely get in everywhere except for Vandy and UChicago. Vandy should be manageable though. Your essays will make/break you for UChicago.

Thanks for the response! If you have a chance thread, just give me the link.

I completely agree. On all the practices I had taken before hand, I was usually around a 33 or 34 on Math. I don’t know what happened on the test date, but I can do better. I’ve been preparing the most for Math on the June test, and have been averaging around a 34 or 35.

Off topic for a second, but do you think my GPA would qualify as an upward trend? I have received two B’s. One of them was first semester freshman English honors, before I really knew how to right. The other was second semester Chemistry Honors (sophomore year), when I really hated the class, and kind of gave up. I realize that it seems really pretentious to even be ashamed by two B’s, but would that qualify as an upward trend, since I won’t have received any B’s Junior year (when my courses are the hardest).

Thanks for chancing me, glad to return the favor!

NYU - Low Match
U of I-Champaign- Low match
Colgate-Low Reach
Purdue-Safety
U Chicago-Reach

With your ACT score, Colgate and NYU should be low matches.
UI and Purdue are safeties
You have a great shot with Vandy and UC, but theyre reaches and with uber competitive admissions its really a toss up half the time

To the previous two:

Thanks! If either of you have a chance thread I haven’t done yet, just give me the link.

Your GPA and Sat scores are good - plus, competing at the national tournament in debate looks very good as well. I think for most of these colleges you’re a shoo in, just show that you’re very dedicated to debate. I think you’ll get into Vanderbilt though, long as you write good essays, especially since you’re doing ED

Vanderbilt (will do ED): High Match
NYU: Match
U of I-Champaign: Low Match
Colgate: Low Match
Purdue: High Match
U Chicago: Low Reach

I never went to a national tournament. Did I say so? I’ve been to the state tournament for three years running, but never a national tournament. My team hasn’t really been able to go to any of the tournaments that qualify for nationals, so it hasn’t been a possibility.

oh that was my bad. Either way, going to state three years in a row is impressive. The ranks stay the same, and I think you’ll end up at Vanderbilt if you’re applying ED

Vanderbilt (ED): High match/low reach
NYU: match
U of I-Champaign: match
Colgate: match
Purdue: match
U Chicago: high reach…it’s impossible to predict UChicago
You have a very solid academic record. Make those essays stellar and get the very best recs you can, and you’re in to your schools :)

i think you have a pretty good shot of getting into all of them… maybe vandy or nyu would be the two most reachiest i think. having a sport might be nice, but otherwise your app will be very well-rounded imo, maybe branch out from debate and quiz bowl (model un is pretty popular at my school, maybe you should try starting 1?) raising your act wouldn’t hurt either n__~

Vanderbilt ED: Low Reach
NYU: Match
U of I-Champaign: High Match
Colgate: Match
Purdue: Match
U Chicago: Reach

Vanderbilt (ED): Low reach (altho I don’t know much but I know it’s not an easy school to get in)
NYU: Match
U of I-Champaign: Match
Colgate: Match
Purdue: High Match
U Chicago: Reach (but since you are a good writer…you will handle their quirky essay topics well)
And I agree- quality is more important than quantity and your ECs are good for the schools you’ve selected

Vanderbilt: High match
NYU: Match
U of I-Champaign: Match
Colgate: Match
Purdue: Low match
U Chicago: Reach

You clearly have a very strong app. Your grades are great, you have strong relationships, passion, and you certainly demonstrate potential as a future lawyer. The only thing I’d work on is branching out a bit more. For example, try finding something to dedicate yourself to in the community. You’ll add some community service hours (always a plus) and show that you’re a good citizen in addition to a good student.

I think you could also add some tougher schools. You have a solid app, don’t sell yourself short. Check out some more upper tier schools, like Tufts or Notre Dame. It’s always nice to have a big reach; you never know what’ll happen!

Chance me back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1511745-chance-top-schools.html

Not sure if this makes any difference, but I got my report card today, and have minor updates.

My Weighted GPA is now a 4.556, as opposed to 4.5. I remained as 5th in my class, but my class size is 325, not 332 as I had thought. Unweighted GPA should now be 3.95, assuming that A-'s count as a 4.0 (which my school calculates that they do).

Vanderbilt (ED): match
NYU: high match
U of I-Champaign: I’ve unfortunately never heard of this one, so I’ll reserve my judgment!
Colgate: match
Purdue: match
UChicago: reach

I like your ECs, there is an obvious dedication to debate and quiz bowl. Work hard on your essays and build strong relationships with your teachers now for good recs, and I think you have a great shot!

Care to chance back?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1512162-chance-transfer-poor-grades-mcgill-will-chance-back.html

I’ve been looking at more schools, so does anyone know what my chances are at:

Northwestern
Wash U

Northwestern - Reach
Wash U - Low Reach

The problem with Wash U is that they really need to see interest. If you don’t really want to go there, you’ll probably be waitlisted.
