New member looking for some guidance.

First of all, I want to say hey to everybody on the forums as I am a new member. I look forward to learning as much as I can off of here to better help me accomplish my future goals.

With that being said a little bit about me. I am currently 26 (27 in January). I joined the Army after graduating high school. I completed 7 years of duty this past year and recently got into civilian contracting in Afghanistan which is currently what I do now. The money is superb and it's extremely rewarding working with the military through out the world. However I am determined to finally get started with pursuing my personal goals in life and attend college to aim for a major in Engineering.

I have hundreds of questions regarding which route I need to take to get there but I will limit them to just a couple for right now. First off, I did not take the SAT's in high school as I was committed to joining the Army. So for my application I would have no SAT scores, however I was told by a few people that once you reach a certain age a lot of colleges will not require an SAT from you. I don't know the truth behind this so that is a big reason why I wanted to ask. Will this become a huge issue for me in my application process?

Second, I am most worried about my elapsed time outside of school, and me being "rusty" per say in all the different areas. What would you guys recommend I do in order to get back up to par with kids that are 18 and going straight into college to better help me in getting accepted in the first place?

My financial situation will not be an issue. As I said before the money is good in contracting plus I will have the G.I. Bill to cover my college expenses so that should not be an issue.

I guess I am just trying to get the ideas out of my head of "I've been out of school to long to go to college for such a serious major." and "I am to old to be trying and get into that now". I am very much determined to accomplish this for myself as I am already dead set on leaving the 6 figure a year job that I have now. So I am not picking this career for money and the wrong reasons. It's something that I would really enjoy doing as my step dad is an Electrical Engineer and it really interests me.

I appreciate any help you guys can lend to me.

Thank you!
