S is considering applying to Rollins and wants to play varsity men's lacrosse. Does anyone have any information on how the new program is progressing at Rollins and how it is being recieved by the students?

is your son being recruited by the coach?

he is being recruited

Well I dont know about lacrosse specifically but in general sports aren't all that popular at Rollins. Did he go on an official visit? He could talk to the players on the team about some of those issues.

They practice a lot... A LOT. The incoming team went from 60 kids to 24 in a month or so... it's definitely not a joke program... but I''ll let you know how it goes once the real season starts... no I don't play, just have a lot of friends that do.

They just had a few scrimmages against club teams from UCF and I think USF and another FL state school. I think they went 1-2 that day, since going back to back to back was tiring. I know that they are really legit though, since so many kids come from up north where lacrosse is a big deal giving the team a lot of credibility. I can second Visirale's comments about how much they practice, it really is a lot.

I also have to say to NJlaxfan that although sports aren't always well attended (other than men's basketball) by the student body, the sports here are taken fairly seriously and a larger than average percentage of students (probably between 15-25%) participate in varsity athletics. The people who play sports are usually serious about them, and we produce a handful of national caliber squads yearly. We just have a generally apathetic student body, so they don't receive much attention by students and faculty alike that they would at D-I or even other comparable D-II schools.

Thanks for all the info about the lax program S visited, had a real good vibe from the coach, really liked the school and has applied.
