New numbers (2400) vs. old numbers (1600)

Is it fair to multiply the new SAT 1 total by.67 to come up with a comparable score on the old SAT1. So would a 2000 on the new test equate to a 1340 on the old test or do you disregard the writing and just add up the math and verbal numbers?

I do both, personally.

I would say to disregard the writing, that's what most people (and colleges do).

It isn't fair IMO, because that calculation would assume your performance on the writing would be the average between your Math and Critical reading performance, which wouldn't make sense. Disgregarding the Writing to make comparisons would be best.

I agree with Murasaki.

Most colleges concentrate on your Math/CR scores since the writing section is fairly new

I was hoping that the writing section meant something as it was the highest of the three on my D's first scores.

I'm sure it means something--just not as much as CR + M. I think that once they've established national averages and measured the success of students with certain writing scores in college that the writing scores will be used more in admissions.

Excellent! Writing would bring my 1520 to a 1490. :</p>

Would bring my 1570 to a 1510.

Gj (6/12 essay) thanks for reading my essay in 45 seconds graders.

It'd bring my 1490 to a 1470.

No Writing- 1520
Writing- 1540

I hope it counts.

There's very little difference between 1520 and 1540. Literally 1 question can make up that 20 pts.

no writing 1450, writing 1480... hope it counts

I'm with you guys--1490 to a 1520, with the writing. Why shouldn't writing count? It's just as arbitrary and meaningless as the rest of the exam.

If writing counts, it should be on a scale of 2400 to give a true reflection. (I'm biased to weather writing should count or not, it was my lowest section at 710).

Why shouldn't it? Because it's a relatively new section lacking enough data to predict success (someone posted this from a interview with a adm. officer from Princeton I think). But anyways aither way I'm kinda set I doubt I will get rejected from a college based on my SAT score unless it's HYP.

Don't look at it so much as you getting rejected because of something you don't meet or miss (unless you're a mediocre student, which isn't the case). See it as someone that they wanted more getting in over you; chances are you're perfectly qualified.

no writing: 1510
writing: 1480
writing sucks! i only got 3 wrong for MC and my score was 720 for MC

No writing: 1600
Writing: 1550

Writing was my lowest section at 710... x.x;

When I asked a Yale representative at a recent college fair, she told me that Writing counted just as much as CR/Math. However, when I asked several LACs, including Grinnell, the reps said that they did not look at Writing. So it really does differ from school to school.

And yes, the Writing is NOT fair. 3 wrong on MC w/ 10 essay = 730 (Jan)....

Writing: 1534
No Writing: 1560
