The Democrat/Republican numbers are interesting. 62.8% of students report identify with the Democratic Party, along with 5% who report backing the Green Party. Another 5% report being Republican, and 20% are independant. 7% didn't answer the question. So although technically "democrats" outnumber "republicans" 12:1, only 75% of students affiliate themselves with a left-leaning political party, which, for a New England university, I would say is pretty diverse.

No offense, but your comment on the "no grades" thing was just misinformative. Brown has grades. Brown has no PLUSES and MINUSES, the grading is done A/B/C or NC (no credit, aka, fail). Students are opposed to adding pluses or minuses into the grading.

That's a pretty good spin about the political party figures. However, I wince at the thought of 'only 75%'. Who are you kidding? Most of the people are Starbucks, New York Times liberals. They are not the only types on this campus, but your average is.

If you stand back and think about it, it's really pretty embarrassing that there is so little diversity of thought at Brown. My daughter is a student at Brown. She's sharp..she's tough..but it's really pretty sad that everyone is of like mind who attends there. Away from the academics..why would anyone want to be in an environment like that?

Just because you belong to the same party does not mean you have the same political ideas. Sure, you might have the same basic ones, but everyone's got their own opinion on just about everything. IMO, anyone who blindly follows the official party line is just kidding themselves.

I agree with RoboKarabekian. Just because the population is largely liberal does not mean that they share the exact same convictions or that they arrived at those convictions in the same way.

Also, I think it's great that so many Brown students agree that Providence is great and that our President is doing a fantastic job. I challenge anybody to find another school where students are nearly universally proud of their president and speak of her affectionately in everyday conversation.

Except in the case of Brown students, I think they do share the same views. Very cookie cutter mold-ish, and if you don't fit the mold, watch out.
