New Professors Join USC Faculty

<p>USC welcomed a number of new faculty members. The largest group will be on the faculty of the Dornsife School of Letters, Arts and Sciences. They have come from institutions in Europe and North America.</p>

<p>Dr. Norman Schwarz
Ph.D. from University of Mannheim
Provost Professor of Psychology and Marketing
Will be the Director of the USC Dornsife Mind and Society Center</p>

<p>Dr. Schwarz is a noted author, researcher and scholar. His research interests are in public opinion and consumer behavior. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and German National Academy of Science. He is the recipient of the Wundt Medal and the William James Award, among other honors.</p>

<p>Dr. Arie Kapteyn
Ph. D in Economics from Leiden University
Professor of Economics
Executive Director of the Center for Economic and Social Research</p>

<p>Dr. Kapteyn's research interests are in the field of aging and economic decision making. He is the director of the American Life Panel. His honors include Knight in the Order of the Netherlands Lion, member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of the Econometric Society. He is the recipient of the Koopmans Medal.</p>

<p>Professor Jong-Shi Pang will be the new Epstein Family Professor of Industrial and Systems Engineering at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering.</p>

<p>Dr. Pang’s research interests are in the realm of equilibrium programming. This research can open up new applications in power, gas and robotics. Professor Jong-Shi-Pang is an ISI Highly Cited Researcher and Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics. He received both the Dantzig Prize and the Lanchester Prize.</p>

<p>Bill Celis is an award winning journalist and author. He has returned to the Annenberg School as an Associate Professor of Journalism.</p>

<p>Professor Celis is a former correspondent for the NY Times and columnist for the Wall Street Journal. He has had many books and numerous articles published. He serves on the advisory board for AmericasWire.Org. His book on the vanishing one room school was nominated for the Mountain Plains Book Award. He has been named one of the country’s 100 Web Savvy Professors and a Top 50 Journalism Professor. He won the 2011 Equity and Diversity Award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. Professor Celis is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Education Writers Association.</p>
