New PRT standard

I heard that the Academy may be going to fleet standards for the PRT. Anybody else hear about this?

yep, heard it from a 2010 Midshipman

What are the fleet requirements and how do they differ.

An example on the difference betweens Fleet standards and Academy:

1.5 mile run:
Academy max time is 10 minutes and 30 seconds
Fleet max time is: 17-19 years old: 12 minutes and 30 seconds
20-24 years old: 13 minutes and 30 seconds

Also there is a difference in curls and push ups. I am not sure what the difference is.

The standards for the pushups and curlups are approximately the same as the current ones at the Academy (in some cases a bit higher too). Actually on my first fleet prt I just stopped my curlups at 101 only to find out that the max was something like 105.

That being said I think its a bit ridiculous that they are lowering the prt standards. Any 20 year old guy should be able to run a 10:30 mile and a half. The fleet standards are an absolute joke for someone training to be an officer.

those run times are the minimums, not the maximums. running a 10:30 barely passes at USNA

^^^ actually, those run times are the maximums.

Maximum would apply to push ups, sit ups, etc- which would have a "minimum" threshold- but the threshold for a run time is the "maximum" as in "maximum allowable time."

But here is another question.
I recall recently a firstie that was seperated just prior to graduation and commissioning for failing the run by 30 seconds. Any thoughts?

Max pushups for males 17-19 is 92, max situps is 109.

In the fleet personnel are frequently given administrative discharges because of their inability to meet the weight standards. At one time I think the enforcement of the standards was very ad hoc. I am not sure what the enforcement is today.

There is more to the story about the Firstie who was dismissed. From what I understand, he was NOT a regular attendee of remedial PRT nor did he demonstrate the proper attitude. If I remember correctly, he became more vocal when he found out he had to pay the government back for his schooling. However, this is from what I read in media publications. I have no first hand knowledge.

When will these changes go into effect?

Bump Is this going to happrn?

have not heard anything about changes to PRT. As far as I know, it is business as usual.

Last I heard it is not happening this year. In the future is anybody's guess.

We've pretty much been told it isn't going to happen with Captain Klunder as the Dant. Most Mids are pretty happy about that.

Just to reaffirm what the previous posters said, Captain Klunder told us at the Dant's call that these changes will not be happening.

We are NOT going to the fleet standards FORTUNATELY. The physical standards here are already getting too weak, we don't need the minimums to drop more.

They did change the swimming requirements, though. I validated swimming, so I don't know the exact specifics. They'll follow when I can get ahold of them.

I'm pretty sure the changes are intended to mirror the swim requirements encountered with specific service selections rather than lower the requirements that are already in place.
