thanks, thats what i meant
@chengallen Are new estimated state cutoffs going to be posted based on the 228 point scale, with 38 points reading, 38 points writing, and 38 points math (then doubling the sum)? According to the College Board, the Selection Index for National Merit Semifinalist will not be based upon the actual PSAT score.
@3scoutsmom For what it’s worth, my daughter took the practice PSAT test yesterday. There was one question in the writing section that she, myself, and my husband got wrong. We write for a living and both possess advanced degrees and she is also an accomplished writer for her age. We ended up shaking our heads over that one. It was really a subjective judgment call. Most of the test was more straightforward, though. Her performance on this practice test was nearly identical to her practice PSAT last year.
@Mamaedefamilia I think my son missed the same question! Hope they don’t have any questions like that one on the real test. I’m very happy that the College Board will be emailing the students the scores this year instead of waiting on the school to give out the paper score report! Last year the school didn’t give my D her score report until mid January!

^ @3scoutsmom Was it about the sentence following the one about the cookbook manuscript collection? Daughter thought is should be deleted because “everybody knows manuscript means handwritten! That’s redundant.”
My Son just got his PSAT/NMSQT score back. It is a 1470… he texted me the score, but did not state what any “Selection Index” score was for Nation Merit, so I don’t know if those are out yet. However, if I estimate from the 38 and double, i can divide the 1470 by 40 and then multiply that by 6… So his Selection Index score should be 220.5 out of a possible of 228… Is this correct?
You need subject scores to determine SI this year. Can’t have .5.
i understand that the subject scores are based on 38 per section, with three sections, then they double the subject scores for a possible of 228. Correct? So, with a possible score of 1520 on the PSAT/NMSQT, if you divide by 40, and then multiply that by 6, it is equal to 228. So, if I did the same to his 1470, can i not estimate that his Selection Index score will be 220?
No because depending on how his 1470 is broken down it could vary. For instance if he has a 760 verbal and 710 math his SI is 223, if its 760 math and 710 verbal its 218. And there can be variations in there. A 730m 740v will have a different and higher SI than a 740m and 730v. Clear as mud?
You really do need subject scores to determine SI this year. Should be provided on your report, though. Just be careful trying to compare to last year.
So does each subject section have a different score range?

Look at the NMSC Selection Index
I have seen a couple of different Selection Index cutoff’s for Texas. One was 206 and the other was 210 and stated as conservative. My son as a 207 based on a 1410/1520. I guess, too close to call if he will make it. Any comments welcome.
@eyeamJohnDoe 1470 could yield 219, 220, 221 or 222. You need subscores.
@dhirenpaul Since TX is one of high cutoff state, I don’t think 207 SI score would make the cutoff. That’s just my best guess. That prepscholar estimate cutoff table is way off.
