I'm an engineer major and I'll need to take these required courses next quarter:

math 2d
physics 7c/ L7c
chemistry 1b/ 1LB

I wanted to take a GE class as a 4th class. That put my schedule at 19 units. What is a GE class that is not too demanding with a light load (preferably from cat. 3)?

Related question: I’m in the same situation as SheerReflection. Would it be crazy if I also took Writing 39C?

Also are the alternatives to writing 39C any easier? Creative writing sounds pretty cool but IDK if I can pull off a B in writing 39b… Is the stuff they teach in writing 39C useful for engineering majors?

ultex: 39c may very. supposedly the “alternative classes” (poetry and creative writing) are easier.
two things though: wr 39b/c will depend on two thing:
the prof
your writing ability. ive found that many new college students cannot really gauge how well they write… so many of the kids i know who got Cs in those classes actually deserved (some) of them. part of it is that you should realize that simply spending time is not the same as writing well… (“I spend 10 hours writing this paper! it should be an A!”)

as for a recommended GE, its hard to say right now. wait until nov when the next quarter class schedule comes out. if you’re really want to think about the next classes, the few classes you can count on being offered are the second classes of any sequence (psych 9b, SS 70B). if you wait until nov, you can also look up the profs on ratemyprof.

Well 39C is not necessarily easier, I just liked the style of writing and structure of 39C. I found writing a structured research paper easier than pulling out BS fluff about rhetoric and all kinds of stuff.

Your writing one research paper in different aspects. First you write a proposal of your issue, than historical analysis of your issue and then advocacy of your issue.

most people try to get it done asap, the next quarter after finishing writing 37/8 if possible. but it’s really competitive so sometimes they have to wait a quarter
