New report: SAT prep courses aren't as beneficial as consumers led to think

My daughter took Princeton Review and we were THRILLED with her results today.

On the whole, her score went up 190 points. She went up 120 points on Math alone! And got an 800 Verbal.

Whether or not she could’ve done that without PR, I don’t know, but we’re certainly happy with the results.

“It’s disappointing that some prep companies may possibly be scamming folks by making their practice tests harder”

It has been known fact even for prep classes for something like MCAT. Most who apply to Med. school, still would take MCAT prep class.
However, SAT prep. classes are overrated.

Of course, a student can re-take without test prep. D’s score went up 160 points on re-take, without expensive test prep. Sometimes increased maturity and just going to school for 8 months can make a difference.

D’s retake of SAT did not make any difference. She got decent ACT on first try after self-prep and never took it again.
