So, if they're going to open in 2013, then some of us applying right now are the very last of the mega-low acceptance rate. Once built, Yale will be at a 20% acceptance rate. Unlucky us : (

Construction of the new colleges has been postponed. They won’t open in 2013.

[Yale Daily News - NEW COLLEGES DELAYED AS YALE CUTS SPENDING](http://www.yaledailynews.com/news/university-news/2009/02/25/new-colleges-delayed-as-yale-cuts-spending/)

tigerton: your 20% extrapolation is rather optimistic. Currently Yale admits roughly 1950 students to fill 1250 slots. If the two new colleges can accept an additional 250 students, that’ll still be 2340 accepts for 1500 slots.

Yale expects 29500 apps this year. If apps stay level (very questionable), it’ll still be 7.93% accept rate.

For accept rate to go to 20%, apps would have to decline to 11700. Not gonna happen.

I see. Please excuse my miscalculation. I was a little “frenzied” when I wrote this thread.

Yeah, I would be surprised if the opening of the two new residential colleges had really any impact on admit rates.

^ It undoubtedly will though. You’ll recall Princeton’s increased acceptance rate last year after some new housing became available.
