One of my essays was rather weak (focused on describing an EC rather than its impact on me), would it be wise to send in a revised version focusing on the impact of the EC on me? And perhaps to show a different side to my character? Thanks in advance.

I've heard no, but I'm not really sure.

I would also like to know.

Anyone else care to clarify?

What you might want to do is wait until a lot nearer the deadline - send in any extra stuff you've done, update them on ECs etc., and put in that revised essay as well. If I had a weak essay, I think that's what I'd do (ie not just send it on its own) - but I have no experience with this, just been deferred as well, so I really have no idea.

I'm not sure if it was xjayz or someone else, but in another thread they mentioned that after getting deferred from ea they sent in revised essays. They later got in rd so I assume that sending in revised essays is ok. But I really have no first hand knowledge; I was just deferred myself so I would like to know too.

after i was deferred, i sent in two more letters of recommendation (they were worth reading), and a new essay that i made sure i absolutely loved. it worked, but i'm not sure if it was because I sent in extra stuff.

did you get them in before the RD deadline? Thanks for the advice guys :).

troublesomejason: I definitely agree. I don't know if it's the extra stuff that got me in -- my GC gathered from the phone call to my admissions officer that I was a very "strong and colorful candidate" and that my admissions officer actually fought for me tooth and nail in the final committee.
