New Robotics Engineering Major for Fall 2011

I thought this was too cool not to share :)

UCSC creates new major in robotics engineering - UC Santa Cruz

Oh dang that is cool :open_mouth:
Now I might change my major :frowning: from Electrical to Robotics

I say go for it! :D

I would if I had the time to, but I’m already nose deep in two majors with only a small handful of classes to go. Sounds like such a fun program, though <3

If you find anymore info on this please post
Do you think I could minor in robotic engineering?

I’ll keep my ear to the ground, but not a lot may surface for some months since it’s still so new :). Not looking like there is a minor option as of right now. I will definitely update you if I hear anything, though.

Something to consider as well is the above quote. It is the problem with new programs, but I think it’d be pretty cool to be among those to pioneer the major.

It looks like enough of the lower division curriculum overlaps with EE that you would have no trouble changing your mind within your first year or two. :)

Exiting, though! I’m a bit jealous. I’m really interested in robotics. However, I don’t seem to have much of a knack for computer engineering.

I just heard about this new major in my CUIP class several weeks ago. Hopefully this will be another major that gives UCSC an edge over other campuses.

I’m not a fan of their arts/humanities fields, but it’s good that they’re working on new interesting science and engineering majors, like Applied Math, Statistics, and now Robots Engineering. They need Civil and Mechanical Eng majors though :)

Civil/mechanical engineering probably aren’t going to happen. I remember someone asking about this during engineering day, and the response was “UCSC is focused on technologies that have expanding future potential.” We are a research university, after all.
