new roommate has no facebook - what does that mean?

^It’s definitely regional. I’m West Coast too, and almost everyone here has a MySpace. I never used Facebook until I got my roommate, and I wouldn’t have even used it then, except she didn’t have a MySpace (although she’s a West Coaster too; just depends).

I think not having a myspace, facebook, etc. doesn’t really mean anything. I don’t have one because I just talk to friends on the phone, my mom will have a problem with me posting pictures, and also because I heard that some jobs don’t hire people after looking up their facebook or myspace. However, I may get one when I go to college to keep in contact with old friends. It could be many different reasons but I don’t think it’s because they’re weird or anything.

I didn’t have a facebook until last week. Myspace has lots of fun people who are into music and dropped out of high school… my kind of friends, so that’s where I am.

No…they don’t hire people that have stupid stuff on their MySpace or Facebook. Pictures of them drinking (underage, sometimes even of age if it’s not tasteful), doing drugs, anything illegal, etc. If it’s normal (pictures of friends, a clever “about me” section, etc), it’s not going to hurt your chances.

Also…it shouldn’t matter, but it does…be careful who you put in your “top friends”. If their pictures are…ahem…questionable, it can carry over to you (company you keep and all that jazz).

or you can set your privacy options right and it won’t matter what type pictures you put up

It’s too complicated for some people. ^

facebook wasn’t open to me until the first or second week of school 4 years ago, and my school was one of the earlier ones added.

try emailing the roommate, or calling them. You might be surprised, and get a response.

I am a (to be this fall) senior in high school and I have no facebook. No, I am not amish, no, I am not introverted. The reason I don’t have one is because my circle of friends doesn’t use it. We really have no need for it. We see each other every day in classes and don’t need to be constantly looking at eachother’s facebook pages to stay in touch.

I will, however, make a facebook page when I go to college because college is a much larger community and chances are, most of your friends aren’t in your classes. Having a social networking tool makes meeting up, scheduling things, and staying in touch much easier when you have a very large and decentralized pool of friends as people do in college. In high school, though, its more small cliques that see each other daily.

To be honest, all high schoolers ever use facebook for is to upload terrible pictures of themselves and make meaningless comments on other’s pictures like “lol ur sooo hot gurl” and “omg lol kewl top” and oh god just reading them pains me.

lol ^^ I agree with the picture comments.

sometimes I feel ashamed to be part of this generation…bunch of moronic losers who fret because someone doesn’t have a Facebook account…jesus
