So I recently found out my roommate is moving dorms next semester. I’ve seen other people posting on our school facebook group about their roommate moving out and having to find a new roommate before a certain date. I haven’t received any email or notice about this from my school. So I’m not sure if I already have a roommate and they just haven’t contacted me or if I’m not getting a new roommate. I would love to have a single room, I just don’t want to pay extra for it. If I’m getting a new roommate would the school tell me about it first? Or will I just find out when I get there for next semester?
If the university is assigning someone else to your room, you will be notified. Depending on the school, you may not get a lot of notice though. And, keep in mind, the housing office is probably closed for break, so I wouldn’t expect to hear anything now.
You shouldn’t have to pay the up charge for a single if they end up not assigning anyone to the spot. But, there is always the possibility you could be assigned someone mid semester (someone in an emergency situation who needs out of their current room).
And keep in mind that if nobody is assigned to the other spot the school will expect you to keep your stuff on your side of the room in case they need to move someone in unexpectedly.
You may or may not get notified…someone may show up.
like @happy1 said, don’t put any of your stuff on the other side. Enjoy it while you have it!
at my school we have a website that handles scheduling and time sheets. This site also contains contact info and roommates see if your school has this and see if a roommate is even listed. You might have a single
