I am in a bit of a dilemma. My state is requiring all juniors to take the SAT in March. However, I am taking the old SAT in four days since my January test got postponed. All of my focus has been directed towards the old SAT, and I have been able to get a 2300+ on several practice tests. If I am able to perform this well in four days, I will have no need for the new SAT, but my state is requiring me to take it.
Will colleges see all scores? I am going to have to take TWO SATs back-to-back. I got a 1400 on the October PSAT (99th percentile). Nevertheless, I feel like my performance on the new SAT may not equate to my performance in four days. What do I do? I will have a useless SAT attempt on my records.
To make matters even worse, the state administration does not include the essay. Hence, if I decide to settle for the new SAT, I am going to have to take it AGAIN in May with the essay.
Calm down! Chances are your performance will be consistent with practices and you’ll be done. Your showing on the new SAT is likely to be similar to the PSAT. I’m sure it will all work out. Try to think of the best case scenario, not the worst.
They can’t force you to have your test scored? Can they? I’d see if it’s possible to just go in for a victory laugh and see how you do, and if you don’t like the way the questions felt or feel confident in your performence just cancel your scores with the proctor afterwards.
I’m in a rather similar situation, I can probably pull a 2300 on the old SAT but i’m worried I won’t get an 800 on the math section, whereas I got a 1470 on the PSAT and a perfect score on the new psat math section, but I don’t want to go through both again. I’m just buckling down and doing it, but do well in one and that should be enough my counselors say colleges won’t be that picky
Pretty sure that many (most?) colleges do not require you to submit all scores. Do not enter any schools for the scores to be sent to. You can always have the scores sent later if you are happy with them.
What a strange rule for your state to have. Are you willing to share which state it is? I’d like to research this
@AboutTheSame With a 2300+, I suspect OP is considering aiming for some of the highly selective schools that don’t allow score choice, which include Georgetown, Cornell, and UPenn.
If you are confident in the old ver, then take it on Saturday. If you ace it, great. But even if you have to submit the second set of scores and, assuming they aren’t as good, it won’t matter, since it is the best interest of the colleges to only use your highest scores. Chill.
btw: you may get lucky in that the superstore is even higher!
Connecticut, Delaware, Michigan & New Hampshire [live free or die?] appear to be the only states that require the SAT. A few others allow a choice among the SAT, ACT & a test I’ve never heard of before.
EDIT: Actually, this appears to be changing on a monthly basis, but it still appears to be far fewer than 10 of the 50.
I live in NH (live free or die seems to apply mostly to seat belt laws and taxes), and I just missed the SAT requirement by a year. It’s a bit annoying, as all the juniors a) can go to test prep classes paid for by the school, b) get an SAT attempt for free, and c) don’t have to take other 11th grade standardized testing.
