did a search but couldn't find. too lazy to look up college board (which didn't seem to have an organised section on this). feel free to shoot me if i am wrong.

anyway, i did the old sat before, and i want to know the difference between this one and the old one.

1) i heard it's now 4 hours. is that true? what kind of breaks in between?
2) is there still an 'experimental section'?
3) how many sections will there be total, and how many will be maths/CR?
4) i have a SAT Maths IIC prep book, is that good enough for the maths? i heard more advanced topics are included.
5) how much is an ivy score? i think it was 1400 on the old one (700/700 plus minus).

yes. it is 4 hours.as I recall there are 3 breaks. two 10 min and one 5 min...or vice versa....don't remember

yes there is an experimental section

10 sections. 3 CR, 3 Math,2 Writing+1essay+1 experimental section

I don't really know for sure

don't know this either. there are some schools not considering the writing score though. but I guess it should be around 2100 if you say before was 1400. just my guess.

You must be kidding! Oh yes, you also said you are too lazy. Here's the detailed answer that I typed up for you.

LOL, banedon all you have to do is go to the collegeboard website. How lazy can you be you're already sitting on your butt. The only action required is finger movement which is effortless, assuming you aren't an 80 year old arthritic.

4) SATII math is more complicated that SAT Reasoning math....SATII (erstwhile IIC) assumes knowledge of pre-calc, whereas SAT Reasoning (erstwhile SAT I), only has 3-5 problems on Alg II - no precalc required. Thus, more basic Alg I and Geom.

5) Good score for Ivy was 750+ x 2 = 1500+; assume it is now times 3 = 2250, although most colleges are likely to ignore the new Writing section, or place little emphasis on it.

The SAT I lasts 3 hours 40 min (including the experimental section which will probablybe 20 min). The first 2 sections will be 25 min each (don't bother your lazyness rushing for the calculator - it's a total of 50 min:)). After that we'll have a 5-min break, then go through the next 2 sections (a total of 50 min again) and have a 1-min break (which I find ridiculous, it should be at least 5). Then another 2 sections and a 5-minute break. And no more breaks till the end, so the last 4 sections (the sections are 10 with the experimental one), which are the shortest ones, will be completed without any breaks. That's what's going to happen on the Oct SAT I but it's different each time.

You will see only two sections with the same format and one of them will be the experimental one. For example, the math part consists of 3 sections - a 20-question, an 18-question (with grid-ins) and a 16-question. If there are 2 16-question math sections, one of them is experimental.

banedon17, where are you from? I think I've seen you on the International Students forum
