Math isnt my strongest subject. I usually score 100 points higher on the verbal. Im hoping a high writing score will help me cumulative score but ive heard the new section doesnt count alot this year. Can anyone elaborate?

I've heard many schools don't care much for the writing, though I don't know which ones.

I do know that Georgetown is one; when I visited Georgetown, they told me that they won't even look at the writing score.

I'm in the same boat as you; my verbal and writing scores are high but my math score is low.

Most colleges are saying that if you do well on the writing it will help you, but if you do poorly, it won't hurt you.

Every liberal art college that I am looking at, including Amherst, Williams, and Swat has said that they will treat the writing section as a seperate test as if it were a writing SAT II, and that they will judge critical reading and math just like the old math and verbal.

If you got:

OLD SAT - 600 Verbal / 700 Math
New SAT 700 Critical / Reading 600 Math

Majority of schools will treat your score as a 1400, and that is coming from Emory Dean of Admissions

creative - did u make a typo because i dont understand what ure saying

700 + 600 = 1300!!

Point and laugh!
Point and laugh!

:D

no, he's talking about cumulative I think

700 + 700 = 1400

I talked to one admissions person, at JMU, who said they're not even looking at the writing score yet. They also don't require an admissions essay and really mean it when they say it won't hurt you if you don't do one. Sweeeeeeeeeeeet!

What about for class of '07? Will the writing count more because there have been a year of the tests already?

2006 is the transition year, we have the advantage, YAY :p!

By 2007, most elite institutions will know how applicants perform on the SAT I Writing

good to know, but not cool. essays are so annoying. ironically, I always score about 70 points higher on the writing then on the math. still, essays....twitch I like expressing my thoughts and stuff, but I hate how essays are so formal.

that's really lame that they made CB change the SAT and now they won't look at the score.

The California School System made them cahnge it, saying they would stop using it, who knew UCBerkeley had so much influence ;)
