I took the first two practice tests from the official Collegeboard SAT study guide (the ones that are on khan academy also) and am now frustrated with the difference between the 2 scores.
Practice Test #1 : 1490 Math:790 R&W:700
I missed 1 in calc section, 5 in writing, and 8 in reading
Practice Test #2 : 1370 Math:770 R&W:600
I missed 2 in calc secton, 1 in no-calc section, 11 in writing, and 18 in reading.
Missing from 8 to 18 questions in reading section… I don’t understand. Did you guys (those of you who took these practice tests) also think practice test 2 was WAY more difficult than practice test 1?? Or was it just me? I mean how you do go from missing 13in R&W to missing 29?

Perhaps you haven’t been reading the news, but I’d say what you’re experiencing is not at all perplexing.
Many of these “official” redesigned SAT exams were thrown together so haphazardly that variances in scores will fluctuate wildly and the difficulty level of each particular exam will no longer be consistent. It’s a complete crapshoot, I’d say, and I wouldn’t be surprised to hear others chime in with similar complaints.
I really hope October SAT won’t be hard…
If it’s hard, the curve will be generous. If it’s easy, the curve will be harsh. @parkyoshin
IF this former CB worker is telling the truth, then CB has some explaining to do. If he’s lying, then I hope he gets prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
Employees being called “Disgruntled” by their former employers often become the best sources of information about a company’s faults. This former CB worker seemed to be so disgusted with the process that he was willing to risk his reputation… and possibly his freedom… to tell the truth. Again, I will let time and the justice system decide if he is in fact telling the truth or is just a ticked off ex-employee.
Of course, in my perspective, the new SAT has looked like something hurriedly thrown together by a pressured committee from day one… and I am seeing nothing to change my mind on this perspective. My analogy is that it’s like a loaf of bread that has been taken out of the oven 10 minutes too soon.
I agree. I’ve felt the same way about the ACT for about a decade, as well.
One might be inclined to agree with your comment about the ACT if the redesigned SAT weren’t so poorly “redesigned” that it makes the ACT look like some behemoth of a standardized test for high schoolers.
I don’t think you know what behemoth means, and your misuse of that word makes your comment incomprehensible.
I found the second SAT practice test to be easier… It kind of depends on the person, place, and time. There are outside factors, but with practice I think you’ll do fine.
So… on the third SAT practice test, I got 1450. Math:780 R&W:670 missed 2in nocalc, 0in calc, 11in reading, and 7in writing
Which prep book should I use after I finish the collegebord one?
Note that there are two new authentic tests posted both on Khan Academy and on the College Board website. It makes sense to me to stick to authentic tests, and if you run out of them, take the old ones again. Others have noted that there are PSAT practice tests out there, although I have only found the one on the College Board website. The PSAT is similar in many ways, although not quite as challenging on the math.
@parkhyoshin i also found SAT practice test no.2 to be harder a little harder in math a lot harder in R and W
This is coming from someone who gets balanced scores in math and english
