Yeah, the whole class rank not being important is what I heard too. A person in the top 30% of a competitive school like Andover or Phillips is still likely a better student than someone who ranks in top 10% in an average public school.
Also, my school doesn’t actually rank people. Other than the valedictorians who have 4.0 and salutatorians who got a B in one semester of a nonacademic class ie: PE, there is no rank. So I am in the top 20% but I have no idea how much the GPA spread is.
I could be like top 11 or 12 percent or I could be in the top 19.5 percent. My school only reports the 10% marks.</p>
