I have read a lot here and in the press about whether for an incoming high school junior (class of 2017) it makes sense to do the old SAT this autumn or wait and take the new SAT in spring and probably again in autumn 2016. The consensus seems to be the old test (using the “devil you know” strategy). However, I think that it should really depend on the student. For kids here in English schools, multiple choice are not the norm when they are growing up, so the SATs are a big learning curve. My daughter tends to test well in general and did very well on her GCSEs last year and it looks like the new SAT will be less tricky and more straightforward. Therefore, since she has a very demanding course load for A-levels this year, my inclination is for her to get off to a good start in school, just do the PSATs in October, and try the new SAT in May. Does anyone think there is anything wrong with this strategy? Thanks, Londondad
@londondad If she hasn’t been studying for the old test yet, there no reason not to wait and take the new one especially since the PSAT will be in the new format. I would encourage her to work through all the practice material at www.khanacdemy.org/sat before she takes the PSAT.
Thanks.
