I received a good score on the new SAT (above 1560 M+E, 6/8 on writing) but should I take the ACT anyway? I was told conflicting advice of taking the ACT but would like the College Confidential’s community’s advice. Thank you! :-*
For more information, I am really doubtful about scoring a 34+ on the ACT…
I heard getting a 34 is tough (I got a 25 on my first) but it seems like everyone here gets amazing scores. I think listining to the community here is a good idea because there are so many good scores on this site. I took both the ACT and SAT practices first and did way better on the ACT which is why i chose it. Maybe take a ACT practice and see what happens?
There is no ACT score you can receive that will improve your chances for admission. Your SAT score is already fabulous. About the only reason I can come up with is that the ACT allows you to avoid Subject Tests at some colleges. I’m generally pro-Subject Test for strong students (they allow you more of a runway to show off top skills), but not everyone wants to take them or does as well as they’d like. Beyond this little loophole, I don’t know what kind of conflicting advice tells a student with nearly a perfect score to keep on testing. You’d need a 36 to “improve upon” your SAT score. Even then you would not be changing an admission decision. You did wonderfully. Enjoy.
What would you? There is nothing to gain. Take a Saturday morning off from testing and work on some other part of your app.
I agree with the last 2 comments. Go volunteer your time, watch football, or just sleep on 9/10 and 10/22 when the ACT’s given. Unless you want a personal challenge for a 1600, don’t fool with the SAT again either.
@footballorbust , don’t feel inferior because of your 25. I have students right now who would give anything to have your score. I hope you’re taking the test in Sept. and Oct. to give yourself 2 more chances to improve!
