Is anyone else auditioning at The New School for Jazz? This is my first choice school.

I am. As of now I have a list of my top 5 college choices in no particular order, and it’s definitely one of them. I’m applying dual degree for Lang(Arts major)/Jazz(hopefully w/ blues ensemble). My voice audition is on Monday - so excited! =D

Good luck!! Mine is March 3rd, of course for jazz drumset…can’t wait!!

Good luck you two–Drummerkid, my son’s drumset audition a couple of years ago was one of his favorite auditions. It ran exactly “as advertised” and New School runs their auditions very precisely, time-wise.

Thank-you!!!

One thing to be prepared for that really threw my son. The interviewer asked him what his first choice school was. He replied that he was very interested in all the schools for which he was auditioning and wanted to see what his choices were. But she pushed at least two more times, saying “but say you got accepted everywhere, which would be your first choice?” It rattled him a bit. I think being prepared for that question, no matter what the answer, would’ve been nice.

So there you go.

Sorry we are going to miss you by a day, Drummerkid. My daughter is auditioning at the New School that week for Jazz Voice.

Good luck!!

Good luck to you too!

Had my audition…played 3 songs with a student rhythm section…piano, bass and sax. Two songs went really well, but on the uptempo song the sax player could not keep up, missed all the hits, and messed everyone up. I had to slow it down, but the song still sounded like crap. Just my luck.

I’m sure it was fine Drummerkid. The adjudicators undoubtedly knew what was going on–congrats on having it over with!

Sleep easy DrummerK. The personnel at New School is top shelf and experienced. No doubt they’ve all been victimized by bad side men or women, and gave you points for your efforts to fix it on the spot. A blessing in disguise. Improvisation is the lifeblood of Jazz. Smart money says you’re getting in.

Thanks…hope so…

My son is a senior at New School. Feel free to ask me questions! If I don’t know, I’ll find out!

Suzukimom- my s is visiting next month (jr) and very interested in NS. I guess I wonder about the ability of the kids to make those “college” connections due to size (heard there is a large % of grad students. Can you fill us in on social scene as well as the opportunity to play around town?

Anyone know how the transfer process works or how TNS is with transfers (ie, very difficult to get in, medium, or pretty amiable toward transfers, etc)?

does anyone know roughly how many international students they accept??

ACCEPTED!!! Jazz Studies- Drumset

Congrats Drummerkid!

Thanks so much!!!
