New Scores, New Chance??

Haha, kudo to KhAn...and JW, what hs do you attend?

collegebound, I'd say a class at WUSTL would definitely add to your app if you get a good grade. I am taking community college classes along with my courseload...

Plus WUSTL is an awesome school!!!

haha .. .but what if i don't get a particularly stellar grade,, it's organic chemstiry (that means i skipped chem 1 + 2)

Didn't you take Chem 1 in hs?! Can you take Chem 2 at WUSTL and then organic chem?

If you get a grade that is...not especially stellar (ie lower than a B-) then no need to tell any adcoms about it. Then you...retake the same class when you are actually in college and kick ass. :)

a B- or even a C in Orgo at WUSTL, wile taking it HS is a feat to be proud of.

Wow. I wouldn't think so...but send whatever grade you're comfortable with.

lol yea i've taken 2 years of adv chem including AP so yea that's why.. .but still their prerequisite only lets me passover chem 1... i still passed chem2

Yea, the class is tough I got a C/D (Depending on the curve) on our first exam... given i studied likke it was a high school test and relaly it was comparable to a high school exam, so i need to study a lot more and hopefully bring my score up! Will having a job since last summer and then getting a promotion within a year look good if i work during the school year with about 14-20 hours/week?

It's one exam. With lotsa effort you will most likely raise the overall grade, especially if you've already fared well with advanced chem classes at your high school.

Yeah, that promotion will look good, especially during the school year. If you've got a good courseload plus you're balancing a job, that's damn impressive. A promotion's great!

Most kids I know who work do like 15-20 hours a week. I do...10-12, more now though, it being summer.

yea i've gotten A's/A-'s in AP/adv. chem so i'm just going to have to focus and study harder... yea i'm a shift leader now so i get more hours, eg. i work 21 hours next week..

What does everyone think about my chances at the Ivies??

better than mine LOL

IMO, nobody (that's right, nobody) has a "high" chance of getting accepted into the Ivies.

Why??? Because the acceptance rates are so low (about 10% for most Ivies), the slightest differences can either make or break your chances. There is always that "luck" factor. All of the applicants are good students, yet 9 out of 10 will be rejected. There are 1600 scorers that get rejected, while kids with 1450s are accepted. A teacher recommendation that says you are great vs. one that says you are spectacular also leaves a big impact on Adcoms. Also, even the mood of Adcoms can affect their thought process.

These are just a few of the many factors that affect admissions at Ivies. I like to categorize candidates into two groups: "chance" and "no chance" I would place you into the "chance" category. Just hope God/Buddha/Allah/Zeus/Ra/Vishnu/whatever religion applies/for atheists just plain luck is on your side.

What about at Duke or Emory?

Also, Carnegie Mellon?

3.6 and ACT 33 for Ivy?? definitely!
I had a 3.3 and SAT 1230 and I am a proud student of Economics at Columbia University
------------------says my cousin who is right next to me

wait what?? lol sry i'm not good at reading things online...

First off, I'm going to have to put you in a box. A box of kids who just see Ivy and automatically assume its the best way to go. One there are plenty of schools that r better than most Ivy League schools, i.e. Wash U, U of Chicago, etc. Its important to go to a school that suits your major. For example, if we both did engineering and I went to Michigan and you went to Harvard, to similar courses and got identical grades. I most likely would get a job over you, because Michigan is a better engineering school. So its important to go where you'll get the best education for what you want to do, not just somewhere with a good name.
Secondly, I have a question for anyone that reads this thing.
I am an African male. My psat was 204, and i got the national merit letter, but I'll most likely only go as far as commended, but I will undoubtedly be National Achievement Scholar. I am currently ranked 5th or 6th in my grade of 307ish(public), and I have a weighted gpa of 4.47. I havn't got my ACT score in, but my SAT was a 2100, 700 split on all three. As far as academics go, will my background carry me throught the admissions process, or should i retake my SAT with realistic chances of improving, (didnt have much time too study, but AP studying sufficed)

how does this relate to my post?

i guess it doesnt relate exactly to the question, but to the post it does whenver i see anyne clump the ivies together, like "im gonna apply to the ivies", i cring, simply stated brown and harvard r very different and suited for different things and ppl. so whenever i see them clumped i just wonder if ppl r simplying applying just for the name

another addition (my AP scores) ... so i'm not the best at history 3- USH and I guess i'm not as great in Chem as i thought (4) and surprisingly i'm good at calc ab (5)... so since i already have a 3 in AP Euro, will this just tell the adcoms that i'm average in history... or will it be negative??
