my other daughter is living at “the lofts” at another college next year. if it is the same, it is very nice!!!

Are these apartments within walking distance to UA? Are any of them more convenient for engineering students?

Bamagirls - Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if these are built yet and if so how are the areas around them? Could you bike or walk to campus? I don’t know if my family can go through the stress again like we had last year when EE wasn’t finished on time. New apartments should be great as long as they are ready to go by the beginning of August:)

This whole housing thing should be interesting next year.

As far as being ready, these are in various stages of completion and all are out of the ground already. I would feel pretty confident about their readiness for Fall 2013.:)

I like the looks of The Gates on 15th Street. The complex faces 15th Street near Midtown Village and McDonald’s. From East Edge, you’d make a right onto Bryant followed by a right onto Dr. Edward Hillard Drive (between EE and DCH). The complex sits on the right as you approach 15th Street. It faces 15th with the residential reconstruction and RR tracks between it and EE. I would consider it easy access with a bike, but walking would be a stretch.

The Lofts sit across from Krispy Kreme where Hobby Lobby was, so you’d need to cross McFarland at the traffic light between 15th and University Boulevard just past Krispy Kreme. It’s in the area surrounded by The CVS and The Holiday Inn…McFarland between 15th Street/Veteran’s Memorial Parkway is to the right, Krispy Kreme is directly across the street, and before you reach the University Boulevard exit if that helps. While you could make it by bike, you wouldn’t want to walk. I would anticipate a shuttle similar to The Woodlands being available at The Loft’s.

513 Rock Point sits between the RR tracks behind The Off Campus Bookstore and Jack’s. It would be an easy walk or bike ride to campus.

I haven’t explored the areas thoroughly behind The Lofts or 513 Rock Point, so I cannot answer about the area except to provide a description of what I’ve seen in passing.

Thanks. I’ll keep these options in mind for my son if needed. He does have a car there but really wants to bike or walk. I meant to say bike or walk to campus for class/activities etc.

i think 513 rock point would be the best location of these three for getting to school on a bike.

there are also plenty of apartments and houses that are already built. : )

Is anyone familiar with Crimson Living? I’ve heard that name thrown around. I don’t know if that’s an apartment complex or a rental agency.

Crimson Choice is a program to maintain ratings/standards for off campus housing. Crimson Place is an apartment complex on 13th near Krispy Kreme.

Maybe this is the one you’re talking about. I think these had been called Crimson Sterling before and are located near Central High School, but I’m not positive.

If you click on the “read more” link under Crimson Choice…you will come up with the search tool for all of T-town. What a great search tool! Thanks for this, Bamagirls!

PS: Here is the search tool directly: http://crimsonchoice.ua.edu/search/

Are these apartments within walking distance to UA? Are any of them more convenient for engineering students?

513 Rockpoint is within walking distance and wouldn’t be too far for eng’g students, but it is on the south side of campus.

the two others are too far to walk, but they may offer shuttle service.

There’s a free app for smartphones called Apartments Alabama. It’s a very useful tool which provides pics, prices, locations, and directions to off campus student housing in Tuscaloosa.

Thanks for the info about the app. I still have a ‘dumb’ phone but I will pass the info to my son. I am turning all housing woes over to him. If he would have put his application in to EE in a timely manner, he wouldn’t be in this situation. Good life lesson. End of rant!

I had called 513 and there were only 4 bedroom apartments and 4 bedroom townhomes left. Location did seem good. Furniture was not included nor utilities so an additional expense and hassle. There is a pool however no other amenities like EE.

We looked at 513 but did not love the location. Nothing specific, just did not like the feel/idea of DD waking home alone at night. They do not have any type of shuttle.

My D will live in the lofts in 2014.

I agree, Sniner. I haven’t looked too closely, but I just don’t care for 513. I’m not sure I can give a specific reason. I prefer EE, The Lofts, or The Gates from what I’ve seen.

Nice choice, Longs.

Update on [The Gates | At Cedar Crest](http://thegateshae.■■■■■■■■■■■■■:)

I looked at this property today. The units are coming along nicely and are expected to be completed in various stages beginning in June. Each unit is two bedroom, two bath with two different floor plans from which to choose. The leases run August 1 to July 25 for $1,350 per unit. The lease includes wifi, a club house with pool, a computer lab, and tanning booth. Bedrooms are carpeted, the other areas are hardwood/laminate hardwood. They feature granite counter tops, celing fans, and pendant lighting. Washer and dryer are included. Utilities are not included except for internet, and the units are unfurnished. The community will be gated. It’s located on/around 15th Street around Dr. Edward Hillard Drive.

Just thought I’d offer an update in case any of y’all are interested. The leasing office is off of Queen City Avenue.

Bamagirls, is your student moving out of EE?
