hi, just graduated from high school and enrolled in city college of sf. I want to transfer to UCLA, UC Davis, or UC San Diego after 2 years. Does anyone have any advice on what classes i should take? Also, on what the next steps are?

city college of SF is a good JC! Get all your general stuff done first unless you already know what you want to major in.

How come you don't want to go to Berkeley? Tired of the Bay?

i want to get far away from my parents. i do kind of want to go to berkeley though... i dont know yet

lol I feel ya. Who knows tho, you might end up changin your mind afterwards. Use assist.org to find out which classes are transferable and which ones satisfy the IGETC reqs.

i'm in the same boat sunny (cept i'll probably be at DVC)...and like they said, just use assist.org, talk to counselors, keep your grades high and extracurriculars will obviously be a plus. most valuable advice:DO YOUR RESEARCH...knowing about stuff, using ur resources, finding information, and being active and using the help of school counselors will help you A LOT.

make sure to start your math your first semester

about how many classes should i take in the fall at CCSF? i dont want to overload myself but i also want to get ahead. o yea, and thx for ur advice guys and gals.

whoa...i didn't mean to make a face that was weird lol how did i do that?

i've been given the advice of taking 4-5 classes/semester...you want to be taking around 15 units a semester to have 60 transferrable units before u transfer..

is it ok to have more than 60 credits total to transfer? cause im taking like 2 PE classes this summer and i plan to take like 2 a semester. (Just love to exercise and learn dances and sports)

haha just go to the websites man. all the course requirements, etc., are listed there.

Yes it's ok sunnynight. I also reccomend taking your math and english early but take as many units as you feel comfortable as long as you're still a "full-time" student. Getting 60 units in four semester and two summer semesters is very easy to approach.

is it a good idea to take nutrition this summer (the summer before i begin as a freshman at CC)....i want to take it because it would help me get a head start on the igetc and since i've already done college chem, i will be able to have fullfilled my science requirement for the igetc since nutrition covers the biological science requirement or whatever its called...or am i just rushing? bc i wanna get the igetc out of my way.

Why not? Summer Classes tend to be easier and I feel I'm more motivated in the summer neways.

I am at City College of San Francisco and I am in the same process as you are, but I am a year ahead of you! Go to the transfer center in the science building and make an appointment with a transfer counselor! I suggest you meet with all three of the counselors in the transfer center at different times, as well as maybe some of the other many counselors on campus. The counseling office is open for the next month, get in there any time! It should be open 8am to 5pm at least. Check online at www.ccsf.edu.

You need to either follow the courses outlined in a transfer agreement with a particular school, or follow the course pattern of IGETC (following IGETC is more general and will make you more eligible for more than one UC).

Basically the steps are finish the courses in IGETC (sprinkled throughout the next 2 years) and finish the courses that the UC system suggests for preparing for you major (and sprinkle those throughout the next 2 years) and then apply in the fall the year before the fall semester you would like to attend. You apply in the process of finishing classes for the IGETC and your major. Go to assist.org and tinkle around with that and it will tell you which classes to take to prepare for each of the many majors at all the public universities in the state. Simply imput that you are transferring from CCSF and imput the school you are transferring to and then select your desired major, and then it will give you a list of classes to take at CCSF.

Hope this helps. Any other questions PM me. I'm doing the same thing as you are!

this is about CCSF:

depending on your SAT and placement testing, you may have more or less math and english classes to take. only the upper math classes are transferable to the UC or are desired to prepare for your major. i think the pattern goes something like this

math 860, 90(advanced algebra), then 95(trig), then calculus 110a, then 110b

or short calculus 1 and short calculus 2 could replace 110a and 110b

i took business math (math 75) and then took the placement test and placed into math 95 and im taking it this summer to prepare for calc so that saved me two semesters of math so now by the end of spring 07 i will have finished both calculus classes, because im taking math 95 this summer. math 95 isnt even transferable so the units dont go toward the total of 60 necessary units!!

if you need math 860 or a remedial english class, you better start early, so you wont have to wait another semester to transfer when ur almost at the finish line.

just plan your next 4 or 5 semesters from many different angles and figure it out .. make multiple plans for multiple schools and multiple majors and keep ur options open as long as possible

can i retake the placement test for english? I scored quite low on it. Also, do you know what this means "At least 3 courses from at least 2 disciplines or an
interdisciplinary sequence. 9 semester, 12-15 quarter units." (it's from assist.com for the social and behavioral science part. Can't seem to figure it out.

Also, thank u sooo much, u were a great help. Wish you da best.

what did you place into for english. u can retake placement tests and i reccommend taking summer courses so even if you place low, you can get up to par

i placed into eng90.=< I tried to schedule it so that i can get into english 40 within 2 years but i would end up having to skip english 1B.
