New Student Conference

When does school start- as in, you go down and stay there? Assuming that I get on campus housing. I scheduled for the late August NSC because I was hoping I wouldn't have to fly down just for the two days of the NSC (I live in NJ, I'd like to avoid the airfare if I could) and then back, and then classes start a few weeks later. Also, I'm applying for the Champe-Fitzhugh Italy trip, which I really hope I'll get, and that's in July.

Additionally, I found out the August NSC interferes with sorority recruitment. I plan on rushing, so does anyone know if it's going to be a big problem?

I never got the NSC pamphlet or information in the mail, so I'm a bit lost on all this, though I did read what I could find online. Thanks for any help!

What happens at night on NSC days?

You will not be able to rush and do the NSC if it is in the same week. I do know that for sure.

It’s best to go to an early NSC to get the best selection of classes.

How many people are at each NSC?

My son signed up several weeks back and could only get mid-July. I think all the early dates are already gone.

I signed up a week ago and got one in June.

Wow… wonder if they open more throughout the summer. Thanks for that info!

Thanks so much everyone! jbg, that link was super helpful (:

I rescheduled mine to July 13-14, as I was accepted to the Champe-Fitzhugh trip, which leaves from Houston July 15- how perfect is that!

Does anyone know- is it standard for parents to come with you? And if you get on-campus housing, when is move-in? For that matter, when (generally) would move-in be for other housing?

Thanks again guys! I really appreciate it.

Having parents coming with makes your life a little bit easier. Good having people to talk/accompany you, pay & drive lol.

Move in is the week before classes start (Gig’em Week), which was August 31 for Fall '09. Looks like August 23rd according to [Gig 'Em Week Schedule | Offices of the Dean of Student Life - Texas A&M](http://studentlife.tamu.edu/nsp/GEW_Schedule). What do you mean for other housing?

I meant apartment housing, but I guess that’d be whenever your lease starts, usually August right? Thanks a bunch (:
