We're calling NEU on this, but are there current students or parents of students who know what activities there are for parents during orientation? We live close by, so are wondering whether to attend one or two days. Our D iss attending both days of course.

Also, any feedback from parents on the overnight option in the dorms? any experiences to share?

Thanks.

I know a parent who went last year and he told me that it was very worthwhile. The most important thing he learned about was the residence and meal plans. Of course, this is just second hand information, but I am planning to attend.

My parents went 4 years ago, so the housing might be different. They stayed in one of the upperclassmen/grad student dorms in west village (I think it was E). My friend was an orientation leader two years ago, and I think the dorm was the same. But my parents were obsessed with it and spent most of my college career asking me why I hadn’t tried to get a dorm room like theirs. Of course, you’ll be in the twin beds that normal college students are in. With my parents, they put them in a double room. I know some parents had suites with two doubles attached (with a kitchen) so they shared the suite with two other parents, but my parents had their own “studio” dorm. Parents also get the air conditioned dorms.

I can’t remember what my parents did, but they really loved it. I think there was a lot about financial aid, how co-op works, meal plans, etc. It’s a whole separate parent program, so there is plenty of stuff.

I appreciate the inputs. Sounds like it could be an adventure. We’re 1 hour away, but thinking about the overnight just the same.

There is a parents’ information blog through the NU website:
