My son is going to UMN this fall staying in a dorm.
Can anyone advise or share their experience w/ bringing your own printer to have in dorm room?
vs
If you used UMN printing/scanning, was this convenient and affordable vs cost/convenience of your own printer & ink?
Thanks!
Don’t bring a printer. It’s super cheap and convenient. Carlson students get it free. Also, everybody on his floor will try to use it for printing.
I believe you should buy a cheap scanner/printer (the smaller the better) for your student’s dorm room. Although many assignments are done online now, for the few they have to print it is worth it to have one in their room, especially if they are the type of student to finish an assignment the night before its due. I’d rather spend $50 for them to have it for the 4 years than have my student leaving at midnight trying to find a printer.
Thanks kjcphmom - you read my mind. I was actually thinking of son wandering around late at night trying to find a printer. I wasn’t sure if they had them in common rooms in dorms or what (I know kids have a lot more in dorm convenience than in my day!).
If I remember right, I do think the dorms might have a room with a printer. I am not sure if it is open 24 hours though. Definitely your call, but I have bought one for each of my sons and I know they have used them.
