So I check myberkeleyapp today and there was a new thing on my checklist: something called the Welcome Program. Apparently it's a program where new students are paired up with a faculty or staff member for an informal meeting after school starts. I registered for it today, but I was just wondering if it's something every student gets to do. So, anyone else...?

I just checked, and don't see it on my myberkeleyapp. Could you post more info about it?

Here's the description: "To help you learn more about Berkeley and the services it offers, we cordially invite you to sign up to meet individually with an experienced staff or faculty member. This is your opportunity to meet with someone who wants to welcome you in person to the campus. A staff or faculty member will be given the information you provide and contact you around the beginning of the Fall semester to set up an informal meeting, such as for coffee.

This one-time meeting will give you a chance to find out more about the campus, and will help orient you to the many services and programs available to you. The staff and faculty are eager to meet you and help you get settled into the routines and rhythms of Berkeley. This is not a formal, ongoing advising or mentoring program, but an informal opportunity for a staff or faculty member to introduce you to some of the campus' resources."

Don't have it on myBerkeleyApp either.

It could be for certain students in Berkeley's effort to retain certain groups of students.

easymack, is there anything you could think of that would cause you to be a target for this program? perhaps a a certain situation, ethnic, economic, scholastic, ect?

No, not really. I'm not really unique in any way. Im a middle class white girl from Southern CA who is transferring in as American Studies major with a 3.8 GPA... no unique research or extracurriculars or anything. Are you sure you guys dont have it on myberkeleyapp? It was WAY at the bottom of my checklist.

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that you're transferring. shrug I just checked again, and it still isn't there, and i'm not exepcting it. Nice gpa, though ^_^
