Im going to be a transfer student this spring and I have alot of questions about the campus life. How is it for tranfer/ out of state/ black students. Is the campus lively for these groups of people. also what are all the pros of the commonwealth honors college. any feedback is welcome please.

UMass Amherst is not a very diverse campus - it’s about 80% white, and only about 5% black, according to this: http://www.umass.edu/oapa/publications/factsheets/race_ethnicity/FS_rac_01.pdf . How important is that to you? I can’t speak about campus life, I am a parent of a student there.

As for the honors college - there are no real tangible benefits such as special dorms or preferential class registration, although I think you get a little bit more hands-on advising, and I believe it has its own dean, which gives it some level of prominence within the university. There are some honors-only classes, that may interest you.
