Update. Tested each cat separately. My cats - all three of them! - ignored the cucumbers.
^^^^^Lol.
Iām relaxing on the couch surrounded by my defective cats - they all are purring so loudly my ears are going to explode! I am leaning towards the conclusion that the cucumbers were defective. The cucumbers were chopped into a salad and eaten for dinner.
Oh so funny! But glad you enjoyed your salad.
Has everyone seen the Temptations cat treat holiday commercial that uses the song āSorry Seems to be the Hardest Wordā? Iām not sure if I can link, but itās quite Googlable. So funny.
Some holiday cheer for cat and dog lovers:
Reading through this thread brought tears to my eyes.
I lost my ābabyā of 19 years about 6 mths ago. And yes, he was my baby- we got him a year before my DS was born.
He had a great life, loved being held and carried around. Spoiled rotten
In the end the vet was sure it was cancer. Would he give up? Nope! Lasted several weeks longer than expected. But, in the end he was so sick. Died in my arms on the way to the vet.
One of these days weāll join the ranks of a feline household again. Looking forward to having a ācat alarmā & purring lap buddy again.
So sorry about your little guy, @bookmom7. But I will say, 19 years is a good run. My ābabyā is 12 or 13 I think. I canāt stand to think of losing her!
Sorry about your cat, bookmom. My ābabiesā are still young! The two grandkitties (in my avatar) are 3. The resident cat is going to turn 7 in the spring.
we had a mouse in the house last week when the kids were home from college. we also have 3 8 yr old Maine Coon cats who live at home year round. I would like to know why my and my kids had to hunt down the mouse around my sonās room from under the bed to under the couch to in the closet until we were able to coax into a bucket? I brought it outside into the woods where it belongs.
A friend sent me thisā¦ Cat meets kitten for the first time, apparently. I laughed so hard I woke up my cats!

Great voice over!
We almost lost our 11year old, Misty. Took her to the emer vet last Friday not eating or purring, hot head. Her temp was 107! Blood was very abnormal in everything, xrays showed nothing remarkable. She had a seizure - vet thinks low glucose. They slammed her with 3 antibiotics and IV. Vet thought it was sepsis, gave low probability for good outcome. Two days later she is doing better but not eating. Took her to endocrinologist where she stayed until Thurs pm. Started eating- finally! After given steroids. Brought her home. Sheās on 2 antibiotics and tapering off the steroids. She is still looking wobbly but sheās alive. Told the kids to look at misty- she is their Christmas present. Cost for both vets- $5,000. Having kitty home and alive- priceless.
We take her back to vet on Tues for a blood and general condition followup.
Hope your kitty gets better.
I had a little surgery and am home. My best nurses are the cats. One on my lap and one at my side. My son found a study about how purring promotes bone growth and sent it to me and said it explains their devotion.
That and it is cold in the house.
Oh @ChuckleDoodle! Glad to hear your baby is better, but oh those bills! Would typical pet insurance have helped much? DS is planning to get a rescue cat, and I told him to get pet insurance immediately. He wouldnāt have that kind of money to spend on a medical crisis, and it would be heartbreaking to have to put down a pet because one couldnāt afford the necessary care.
MommaJ, I did the simple math and if we had paid for insurance for the last 10 years, it may have come to about the same cost. At the time, we were on such a tight budget, we could not afford insurance. There was a time when just taking the cat to the vet for well baby checks were not affordable and she went without her shots for about 3 years.
Luckily, things got better and has been to the vet for her annual check or the past 4 years. Right now the hardest thing I have to do is figure out how to give her the pills she needs to take. tried the greenie pockets- she did them once and now turns her nose up at them. She wonāt even eat them when they are empty. Tried hiding them in her chunky, gravy food and she eats around them. This morning, I placed them in some american cheese- she loves cheese. She ate the small pill and the large capsule, then wouldnāt touch the steroid tablet. I added the cheese ball to her food and she ate around it!
I can tell sheās not feeling well because she doesnāt fight me when I pry open her mouth and pop the pill in. She just growls. Poor baby. On Tuesday Iām going to see if the vet has any recommendations. She has about one more week with the two smaller pills but we have to get to December 31st with the capsuleā¦
We have to pill one of our cats daily and run into the same problem. She manages to eat and lick the pill pocket till the pill falls out and she can ignore it.
I just bought (two days ago) GNC Pets Pill Wrap - cats - at PetsMart and our cat ate them with pill inside both days now. Hopefully this continues for a while.
A pill gun/popper for cats also works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4r5JGYAfx6M You can buy them just about anywhere.
@ignatius , we tried the pill pocket thing. It worked once and now she wonāt touch it even if itās empty. Iām hoping the cheese solution works for a few more daysā¦I saw the āgunā pill popper, but you have to do the same process - hold her down and pry open mouth. I can do that without a utensilā¦
ChuckleDoodle, hugs. If your cat still has the energy to eat, it is a good sign. One of mine just stopped eating. Period. I had to syringe-feed her in addition to giving her the meds. She did not make it.
Can the medicine be compounded into some sort of liquid form? We have a compounding pharmacy in our town that can make turkey and beef flavored antibiotics. Syringing that into my white catās mouth was easier than shoving a pill down her throat.
My boy is getting 5 pills and 2 shots a day. Since heās elderly and fairly compliant, I just pill him. Putting meds in food leaves me wondering if he took it all. I tip him onto his back while seated, pry the jaw open and let gravity help the pill go beyond the point of rejection. I donāt know if Iāve gotten better at it or if he has simply given up, but this method works most of the time. I try not to think about how much this is all costing, but heās such a little love!
Chuckle: The GNC Pet Pill Wraps are not the same thing as the pill pockets. My cat refuses the pill pockets - or rather manages to eat the pill pocket while spitting out the pill. I half expected the same with the pill wraps but my cat did eat them.
