New thread for cat lovers

My white cat had that issue, too! I got worried… then I saw the root of the issue: she would try to reach the back with her tongue and then fall over! She is fat.

Yesterday I was walking by the back door and thought I saw my cat on the porch. He’s been strictly an inside cat since we got him but I can tell he really wants to go out. I flipped out momentarily, then realized that the fellow on the porch was not my Maine Coon mix but an actual raccoon! (Breaking into the garbage during daylight, which may not be a good sign…)

My 18 year old cat has been in declining health, and H, who is retired, is devoting himself to improving her quality of life (he had a really hard time when her sister died in December). S is a chemist who tests CBD (among other things …), and he recommended some CBD for her. It really seems to be helping her. And we now have an at-home IV to hydrate her. Ah, the things we will do for our beloved pets. I told him I expect he’ll care for me without complaining when I am old!

I’m sorry for asking this here but is there a thread for dog lovers and where can I find it?

I think there was a thread, but if it had no activity for a while, it would be closed by now. Please feel free to start a new one! Cat ? lovers love dogs ? , too.

@MoonKnight oh do start one! I have two granddogs and I love dogs.

ok, S15 got his kitty today! she’s a farm kitty; 10 weeks, very shy. He’s looking for old fashioned farm-girl type names for her. Black, with white paws, white moustache, and white whiskers. Our cats are hissing at her! but she’s purring.

Gotta love purring kittens. Feisty and fearless. Until the big cats show them who the boss is.

One of my very dear cats escaped from home by opening our sliding screen door and walking out into our backyard. She’s done this before occasionally but has always come back immediately–generally someone calls after her and she dashes right back in. This time our gardener was working out back and she disappeared. We assumed she was hiding under the house and would come out once he left. It’s been three days and we are beside ourselves. She’s ten years old and she’s never been outside beyond those little escapes in our immediate backyard. My daughters are trying to console me by saying someone may have taken her in. (She is a beautiful and affectionate cat.) I can only hope that’s true. We live in an area where there are coyotes aplenty and…well, I’ll leave it there.

Her big brother is very aware that something is wrong. I don’t know if he misses her or is simply upset that his world has changed. He’s exceptionally needy and more vocal than normal.

We’ve posted on nextdoor, papered our neighborhood with flyers, checked the local shelters, left our gate open and left a litterbox outside so she might find her way back, and walked the neighborhood with cat food, calling her. She’s microchipped so there’s always a chance that someone will turn her in somewhere and we will be contacted. Is there anything else I should do?

Oh no @3girls3cats :frowning: Hugs. Our calico baby disappeared just like that. I think you have done all the rights things. Hope she is just scared and hiding somewhere or someone will find her! We still hope our Cali is somewhere safe. I know…

So sorry, @3girls3cats! I agree with @BunsenBurner - you’ve done the right things. (And sorry about your calico too, @BunsenBurner.) Definitely joining in the hope that she turns up soon.

Thanks to both of you. @BunsenBurner I’m sorry about your Calico too.

The other sad part of this was seeing all those owner surrendered cats at the city shelter. I was ready to come home with an even dozen of them. Even the ones whose tags read: “not good with other cats.”

@3girls3cats - The only other thing I can think for you to do is to go out late at night with a flashlight. Maybe the light will catch a pair of eyes.

Good luck!

Well, my 19.5 year old Ragdoll passed on Saturday, and we are now a catless household. It was a rapid series of events, with ultimately a botched euthanasia. I won’t go into details, but I’m quite haunted by the whole experience. Having lost two cats in 5 months, it’s been very strange these last two days not having a small critter to tend to. The spot where the food and water dishes used to be is so very empty. I took all the cat food, toys, bedding, litter and carriers to the local shelter on Sunday, which is always in need. It was way too hard to keep everything around. They were very grateful and full of condolences, but I fled before letting myself even hear any meows. We are about to put our house on the market, and this isn’t the time to get a new pet, so I’ll be bereft for a while. (And yes, I’m perusing Petfinder and adopting cats in my imagination.) When I do have cats again, I’ll buy all new gear. This is tough, folks.

Hugs. ? Big hugs.

So sorry, @MommaJ. I know what that empty food-and-water spot feels like. Here’s hoping the work of putting the house on the market is just absorbing enough to help get you through.

@MommaJ, so sorry.

Both my cat and my dog are elderly and going downhill these days. This is the absolute worst part of having pets in your life.

I’m so sorry @MommaJ. I know how hard this is even without botched euthanasia. I’m sending virtual hugs and strong sympathetic healing thoughts.

–3girls once upon a time 3cats now down to 1 :frowning:

Our white cat is 10. The avatars are 5. Oh my, how the time flies. These are our 2nd/3rd set of cats (not counting my childhood cats). Still can’t get over the dog. He was the best dog ever. I think the tortie avatar will be our last cat because there is no other cat in the world with such great personality.

@BunsenBurner that is what I say about my black cat (the one remaining cat until maybe I am able to find his sister). I’ve had 5 cats in my adult life and while I’ve loved every single one of them, I’ve never met a sweeter, more affectionate cat than this guy.

We were concerned that he was howling and clearly unsettled when his littermate escaped but he seems to be settling into only cat status comfortably, maybe a little too comfortably, these days.
