New to America, pls chance me !?

Hey everyone, I just moved from Sydney, Australia to Los Angeles, California because of my dad's work, and so I'm panicking about colleges! I'm a Junior now, and I know that applications are around the corner! Here are my details:
SAT- Haven't taken the SAT's yet, but I'm aiming for around a 2000-2200?!
SAT Subject Tests- Haven't taken any yet but plan to take US History and Math 1 (above 700 on each?!)
GPA- 4.0
EC's- Band (Band Leader)- School, Regional, State levels, Choir- School, Regional, Sate levels, Debating- School, Regional, State levels, Model United Nations (Secretary), CLAWS (charity for animals), High Resolves (Leader), Peer Support (Leader), World Vision, Amnesty International, MS Readathon, Knitting Club (knit blankets for charity), Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal, Cafe Malvina (cafe run by students in school), RYPEN- Rotary Youth Camp (Rep. for my school).
Important Achievements- Grade 3- Bandage Bear Artwork (artwork travelled internationally to a joint gallery in Japan, as well as showcased in the New South Wales Regional Art Gallery, Grade 6- WhatsMyStory Competition (1 of 12 finalists out of over 30,000 entries throughout 2 states in Australia, for a creative writing competition), Grade 6- Regional Choir performed at the Sydney Opera House, Grade 9- School Concert Band performed at the Sydney Opera House
Universities- Yale, UCLA, UC Berkeley, UC Irvine, NYU, UChicago, CMU, Stanford, (or any Ivy League university). *I probably won't apply to all of these, but I need to know my chances to get into any of them.
Thank you so much for any help! :)

I also forgot to add:
EC’s- I’ve been doing Karate since I was 5 years (10 years)- Many awards, tournaments at Area and Regional levels, medals from tournaments. Also, when I was nine years old, I participated in the GKR Karate World Cup.
AP classes and exams- Haven’t taken any yet because I was unaware of them when I arrived here, but next year, in my Senior year, I am taking all AP classes available to me, and if they aren’t available, then it will be Honors classes.
Rec’s- These will be extremely good! (English and History teachers, maybe Counselor).
Essay’s- Hope these will be really good too?! They should be…
Please reply to my posts! I really need help!
Thank you :)

are you a US Citizen or Australian (International)? That could impact your chances a lot. Your ECs look good but you should try for a 2200-2300 if you want to shoot for Yale and Stanford-type schools. If your essays, recommendations and subject tests are all good, you have good chances at the UCs (in-state) and you’re in the range for the more competitive schools (but then again, so is everyone else lol). Good luck!

Dont list accomplishments that happened too long ago.

Yale - reach
UCLA - low match
UC Berkeley - match
UC Irvine - safety
NYU - match
UChicago - low reach
CMU - match
Stanford - reach

Craft a very cogent, focused application to have a good chance at UChic, Yale, or Stanford.

Don’t take Math 1, take Math 2 and try your best to get in the high 700s for USH too.

Yale: Reach
Stanford: Reach
UCLA: Match
Berkeley: Match/high match
NYU: Match
U Chicago: Reach (write stellar essays and it becomes reachable)
CMU: High match
UCI: Low match

Yes I am currently an Australian citizen. Will this effect it in a good or bad way? Thanks for your comment! :)

Thanks for that advise, I hope to write very attention-grabbing essays! :slight_smile: Thanks again…

What if I haven’t done the right classes to take Math 2? I should have done higher math classes, but when my classes were transferred from Australia to here, they were changed around a bit. Also, will it effect my chances for acceptances from higher schools if I haven’t done any AP classes? This is because I didn’t know what they were when I came, and they obviously weren’t available in Australia. Although, I was in a Selective School there, which is equivalent to a Magnet School here. Thanks again! :)

Thanks for your opinion. Yale is my dream school, I hope I get in! :)

Unfortunately, it will probably be a negative (unless you have a green card). Will your family be able to pay full tuition or will you need a lot of financial aid? It can be an asset depending on how you play it up in your application.

@ipodlover88909
Oh ok thanks for that info. I will definitely not be able to pay full tuition, I will need a lot of financial aid. Also, what do you mean by “it can be an asset”? Thanks :)

Hey guys, i was just wondering about my chances for any of the other 6 Ivies… My goal has always been to go to an Ivy, especially to go to Yale! Will my chances be good? Thinking of maybe applying to Cornell?! Thank you :)

Ivies are reaches for just about anybody.

@Catria
Oh ok thanks… :)

@mzsabz,

Why not just go to university in the home country as a citizen? It would be a helluva lot cheaper than paying full tuition in the U.S.

Hey guys, I currently have another dilemma! I got my transcript back and they left out a few subjects, so I have to talk to my counselor about that, but what i wanted to ask you guys was; as u all know I went to a Selective School, (equivalent to a Magnet School here), and we didn’t have the option of Honors/AP classes. If we had that option then I would have done as much as I could, but we didn’t. Anyway, when my classes were transferred over here, they were put down as simply regular classes… I am going to ask my counselor if she can change some or all of them to Honors or AP classes, because thats what they should be since i was in a Selective School! Any thoughts on this? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks :)

Universities in Australia are my backup. I want to have a new college experience! Maybe in a different state from California?! Thanks for your advise though! :)
