i'm from UCLA, but i'll be at berkeley for this summer :)

i'm really excited since i got an internship in the area, but also a little apprehensive -- an entire summer without knowing anyone in the area?

oh dear. i do not fare well with boredom.

so here's my question to you guys:

i really want to make the most of my experience here. yes, i am planning to shop, eat, and explore the bay, and all those good things, but how can i get involved on campus? what clubs meet during the summer (community service / social justice scene / etc) and how else can i beat the boredom and meet new people?

PS: any language exchange clubs? trying to improve my spanish and really don't want to lose everything over the summer :(

Don’t think any clubs are really active on campus during summer, your best bet is to interact with people in the dorms or classes, but I don’t think you’re taking summer school…

Shop: Go to SF, there is a big multi-story west field mall
Eat: Try cheeseboard on shattuck (has weird hours), check out downtown college area especially trattoria scisiliana (great italian restaurant), asian ghetto on durant (typical ucb student grub hub)…
Explore the Bay: Go to fisherman’s wharf, great food, shopping, and entertainment…

more later…

anyone have any idea about language exchanges?

8888, i hope thread starter is a dude :]

welll…assuming that 8888 is a guy haha

dont know about the school, clubs but for the boredom, san francisco is really close by! lots of stuff to do there!

what’s wrong with guys chilling with guys lol. good guys night out.

Kip’s or Blake’s. Hit on the cute drunk girls.

Circle K’s a community service club that meets during the summer. =)

I would recommend, at least from the standpoint of Thai food, going to the one on Hearst, i.e. all the way on the North Side of campus. Walking is so fun anyway!
