I am interested in applying to NYU next year but I don't know much about the school.

Would I have a chance?

UW:3.7 (I did get a C in math a semester)
Course Work: Very rigorous (IB Diploma)
Class Rank: 48 of 500, strong public high school

ECs: Good, strongest part of my application.

I don't live near NY, I don't know if that matters. (near Chicago)

Don't need financial aid " "

What types of essays do you have to write?

What are the different schools or colleges?

How is student life?

I appreciate the help.

Well on last years app you had to write 1 big essay on the application along with a few short answers (You can also use the common app which has an NYU supplement with the same essay and short answers).

[New York University > Academics > Schools](http://www.nyu.edu/academics/schools.html)
this link will give you some background on the different schools.

Student life is broad to put it lightly. The way I see it there really is no exact NYU experience. NYU is very unique in that it’s not a sports school and it doesn’t really have one central campus so life for each student is very different. When you step out of your classroom you’re right back in the city. This appeals to some people but not to everyone so if you like NYC then you’ll like NYU. NYU is right in the middle of the village so if you like to be surrounded by coffee shops and botiques in an overall artsy enviorment then NYU is a good fit for you.

Overall I would say that your scores are a bit low for NYU. I would consider it a Reach for you. Your GPA is good and if you can push your ACT up maybe 2 composite points you might have a good chance.

you need to come tour the school.

NYU is one of those polarizing love/hate schools and you need to come on campus to see if you like it. i do not recommend applying without touring and no one can accurately describe the experience of being on campus/in Manhattan for you.

“what are the different schools and colleges?”

seriously? this is the kind of question that the admissions site was made for. [NYU > Undergraduate Admissions](http://admissions.nyu.edu)

if you don’t know much about the school, then why you interested in NYU? you need to have more substantial reasons other than the fact that it’s in NYC.

I appreciate the help.

Another question, how difficult is it to transfer between Stern and CAS? Is it possible at all?

Or rather CAS to Stern

Very difficult, don’t count on it. You have a better chance transferring to Cornell then Stern.

Stern has like a 97% retention rate.

If you try to transfer to Stern from CAS, especially after just one year, they will assume you initially applied to CAS to get around Stern’s tougher acceptance rate, and you’ll have to think of a VERY good reason why that might not be the case.

stern is locking up transfer admissions. unless you have a really high gpa in CAS and you have a good reason for transfer, you will not be accepted.

and no SAT? your ACT is kind of low.
