Well on last years app you had to write 1 big essay on the application along with a few short answers (You can also use the common app which has an NYU supplement with the same essay and short answers).

[New York University > Academics > Schools](http://www.nyu.edu/academics/schools.html)
this link will give you some background on the different schools.

Student life is broad to put it lightly. The way I see it there really is no exact NYU experience. NYU is very unique in that it’s not a sports school and it doesn’t really have one central campus so life for each student is very different. When you step out of your classroom you’re right back in the city. This appeals to some people but not to everyone so if you like NYC then you’ll like NYU. NYU is right in the middle of the village so if you like to be surrounded by coffee shops and botiques in an overall artsy enviorment then NYU is a good fit for you.

Overall I would say that your scores are a bit low for NYU. I would consider it a Reach for you. Your GPA is good and if you can push your ACT up maybe 2 composite points you might have a good chance.
