I am currently a junior in highschool with about a 3.9 GPA but i will get it to a 4.0 before the year is over. I this year I am taking all advanced and honors courses and one ap class. These include: honors physics (steady B average), ap stats(i have had a steady B to B+ average), advanced geometry.... I am taking advanced geometry this year and have 100 average. I will take ap micro/macro next year. at my school we take alg I, alg II, geometry, and then college algebra and trig or pre-calculus. I am taking advanced college algebra and trig next year but i want be a civil engineer. Will it be very difficult taking Calculus I as a freshman in college for me? Will engineering be a bad choice for me, even though i really want to be one. I got a 27 on my ACT(which i will improve). Lastly, I understand that im not nearly as qualified as the majority of people on this cite so go easy on me. Forgive the sloppy type, I typed it in a hurry. ALso, im not looking to get into any ivys, my top schools right now are NC state, purdue and univ. of tennessee.

Wherever you attend, try your best to take Calc in community college. Most pre-engineers are much further along. Best of luck to you

I think you can do it. I know a current engineer that only took Calc AB in HS, and so re-took the basic Calc class in college. I do not understand how you can have a 3.9 GPA though if you are a "steady B " in a couple of classes…

That is my weighted GPA, at my school you receive higher GPA points for classes higher than the basic college prep class. For instance, a B in an AP class weighs out to an A usually. Oh and I was always pretty good at Algebra and i am taking college algebra and trig next year. Will this prepare me for Calculus I?

Have you talked with your parents about paying for college? At least two of those universities are out of state for you, and won’t be good options if you need a lot of financial aid. The University of Alabama has good merit-based aid, especially for engineers. I don’t know if your ACT score is high enough though. mom2collegekids has the details.
