My niece is a junior and looking into art programs. She is attending RISD's summer program and is extremely excited. This is her 1st choice. Her parents have heard that University of Ma, Dartmouth has an excellent art program. It is also close to their home. She would like to stay in New England, does not like Maine. Any input or advice would be very welcome as we are just starting this process. Any suggestions about good programs to look into?
Thanks for any help!

Also in New England: The School of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston), which has a good reputation and joint degree programs with Tufts. It also just announced a joint degree program with Northeastern.

Thank you mackinaw. I forwarded the info to my sister.

You're welcome. I hope your niece enjoys her summer at RISD. I hear it's a very good program, and a real taste of the intensity of art school. My daughter graduated from RISD a few years ago (majored in industrial design).

Have her look into Massachusetts College of Art (MassArt.edu), and if she lives in New England it's a bargain (state school). My D did the RISD summer pre-college program last summer, but has decided to go to Mass Art. She wanted to be in an art school in a big city (other than NYC, where we live), so Mass Art fit the bill. She also was impressed with their program, and we've heard good things about it from professionals in the arts.

I went to RISD pre-college last summer and it was absolutely amazing, so I know she'll have a good time there. It will also help her decide more of where she want's to go. I have also heard good things about UMassD and SMFA. Another one you might want to have her check out is Tyler School of Art at Temple University. It has a great reputation and is currently my first choice (I'm a junior as well). Good luck to your niece!

Thanks everyone, great info here!
