I am new to the UC quarter system and wanted to see if anyone had any advice regarding how many units to take, how to study, where study, who I should take for organic chem, physics, or statistics. Also wondering how the new student orientation works! Thanks in advance!
Don’t worry about any of this now. Everything will be taken care of for you at NSO
Yeah, don’t worry about this right now. Sign up for orientation and then let UCLA take it from there. You rarely have to figure stuff out on your own ahead of time.
UCLA was a little too thorough when it came to registering for classes, haha. At transfer orientation, I was given a list of courses and told I could only select from those courses (pick from column a, column b, pick an elective), so a lot of the decision making was taken out of my hands. I guess that’s good for those new to the quarter system though. To get an idea of what your schedule should look like.
To look up ratings for professors, UCLA students use the Bruinwalk website. For example you can go to the site and put in Chem 14C and look at the ratings for some of the Organic Chemistry professors.
Thank you for the advice. I’m just super nervous and I’m the first in my family to go to university so I’m not sure who I can talk to. I wanted to prepare because I’m technically still pre microbio major and I have about 32 credits I have to finish before I am accepted as a microbio major. I was thinking about taking 12 units every quarter (all 4 quarters) but I also dont want to tank my classes. I’m super excited about the NSO but it’s also making me nervous to have to wait. I cant even sign up for it yet. Also, I was told by CCCP that transfer students have to be full time, is that true?
All UCLA students need to be full time. If you’re a transfer student, you should reach out to Heather Adams from the UCLA Transfer Center. She’s a great resource. Google their website, it’s not hard to find.
I didnt know that. I will try to contact her this week. Thank you so much!
