new twist in the rolling stone/uva fiasco

trying to blame the white house for your terrible reporting and slander is a big fat zero! you as professional journalists need to know that presidents and those surrounding him always have an agenda, you need to ask questions and figure out what the purpose of their “help” in leading you to a story is. and vet everyone and everything. this is journalism 101! trying to say the white house hood winked you is not an excuse. that is what politicians do. journalists need to see threw the smoke and mirrors!

Note the source of the article, also.

hunt what is the problem with the source? are you saying it is a fake court filing?

I’m saying it’s the Washington Times. I wouldn’t believe an article in that paper if it said the sky was blue.

Article says very little. The Times is owned by the Moonies from South Korea.

Just to be clear, for the benefit of people reading this thread who don’t read the underlying article: The only person suggesting that the Obama Administration has any role in this mess is the Washington Times’ headline writer. The story itself makes clear that what Rolling Stone has alleged is that the supposed victim was introduced to the reporter by a woman who was employed by the University of Virginia as a sexual assault victim advocate at the time. In other words, arguably the University of Virginia itself, through its employee, helped bamboozle the reporter.

The White House comes into play because, as the article says, the UVa employee in question “also served as an advisor to a White House sexual assault task force,” a fact that has nothing to do with the Rolling Stone court filing. With a little digging, what that probably means precisely is that she was one of hundreds of students, administrators, and activists who were interviewed by the task force staff in the course of preparing a report released at the end of 2014. The article also says that she testified before a congressional subcommittee, including discussing the “Jackie” case, before introducing “Jackie” to the Rolling Stone reporter.

FWIW, what Rolling Stone says in its court filing is true.

The UVA employee was bamboozled by Jackie too. She introduced Jackie to RS. She also testified in front of the U.S. Senate about Jackie’s fabricated rape story. The video of that is on YouTube. Pretty embarassing.

Presumably RS points this out to show that they were not the only ones to be taken down by Jackie’s fabrication. Worth a shot I guess.

The Wash Times angle on this is to show how advocates and the media and the Obama administration have all over-hyped the issue with insufficent concern for the facts.

This White House being short on facts and long on self-serving hype? Come on, you can’t believe that!

Fraternity members have filed.

And Will Dana, RS’s Managing Editor, will step down.
