Strangely enough, both flagship UC’s aren’t increasing in selectivity, while the lower ones are. Davis and UCLA actually decreased most, while Berkeley remained the same.
Berkeley:
<a href=“http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/february05/news2.html”>http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/february05/news2.html</a>
<a href=“http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp”>http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/freshmen.asp</a>
Berkeley got 36,982 freshmen apps. They admitted 8986 last year.
8986/36982 = 24.3% That’s about the same as last year, and 1% higher than UCLA for 2004.
HOWEVER, i think Berkeley will admit more because they dont have enough freshmen.
UCLA:
<a href=“http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof05.htm”>http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Prospect/Adm_fr/Frosh_Prof05.htm</a>
According to the prelim
UCLA admitted 26.79%. That’s approximately an increase of 5 percent over last year, and 2 percent above that of Berkeley. All averages decreased.
Mainly, UCLA need to add more freshmen, so they admitted 1000 more this year. Their enrollement dropped below 25,000 last year.
SD:
<a href=“http://studentresearch.ucsd.edu/sriweb/enroll/ffapadac.pdf”>http://studentresearch.ucsd.edu/sriweb/enroll/ffapadac.pdf</a>
<a href=“http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/february05/news2.html”>http://www.ucop.edu/pathways/ucnotes/february05/news2.html</a>
If they admit 17269 again, out of 40499, that’s 43%, more than before.
SB:
<a href=“http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/QuickFacts.asp”>http://www.admissions.ucsb.edu/QuickFacts.asp</a>
If they admit 19589 again, that’s 52%, less than before.
UCI:
<a href=“http://www.admissions.uci.edu/f04_fr_profile.html”>http://www.admissions.uci.edu/f04_fr_profile.html</a>
17,971/34,441= 52%
So the selectivities rankings are back to where they were 6 years ago
1)Berkeley
2)UCLA
3)UCSD
4)UCSB
5)UCI
