New User here

Hi there,

I figured since this is my first post and I don't want to come off as a troll, I should introduce myself :D. I will be a CC transfer into MSU for fall 2011, and I will major in Geography with a "minor" in GIS.

I'm very excited to go to MSU (though, I don't know about converting to Green and White just yet LOL). I have already taken care of admissions, transcripts, and now am just waiting on housing. I've been looking at Mason/Abbott or McDonel primarily, but I had the issue of getting late on that part, so I'm hoping for the best.

Anyway, appreciate learning more about the school with such limited time, and I can't wait until the Fall.

MSU2013

Hey! Congrats on your acceptance to MSU. I’m going into my 4th year at state. If you have any questions about MSU, feel free to ask me (or anyone else on the board) through a PM or post here.

Welcome to MSU! I’ve been a student here for 5 years (got a music degree, now studying veterinary technology), so also feel free to ask me any questions!

Thanks everyone!

A couple other things, I’ve got the Orientation in July, and I have to admit I don’t really know what to expect out of that. I know I’ll have the housing taken care of next month, and I think I’ll be able to get my classes selected in July as well, so that’ll be nice.

The more logistical stuff I can get done earlier, the better. Then it’ll be a new lifestyle for me moving up there in August :).

If you don’t know your housing assignment by orientation-which you should- you’ll find out there. At orientation you’ll have a meeting with your advisor too, and then enroll for classes. There will also be a tour and presentations about MSU, college life, etc., and there are seperate presentations for transfer students so that should be helpful. Hope that helps, and let me know if you have any other questions!

Welcome to MSU. I don’t think that you can choose housing preferences anymore, but maybe that has changed?!

I’m going to be a 3rd year and getting a dual BS in Anthro and a BA in Residential College in the Arts and Humanities. Lemme know if you have any questions :)!

^^

Appreciate that! When I talked to housing, you specified what conditions you’re looking for (e.g. quiet, alcohol-free, etc), however you can email them requesting a specific hall. I’m not too worried about it, but I did specify the settings I was looking for and am hoping for the best! :)

Another update (sorry I haven’t been on here lately, was on vacation for 2 weeks):

-Looks like I’ll be staying in the RedCedar neighborhood (most likely Abbot or Mason, i’m guessing. Still TBD as to the specific hall)

-Orientation for me is still on July 11, but I have to admit having to be there at 6:45 am kind of SUCKS! Especially when you are an hour and a half away :D

Question:
How is the transfer orientation (or any for that matter)? Will it really take the whole day? How was your experience with it? I did get the handbook saying the details, but would like others’ comments as well.

MSU2013

Red Cedar is nice with a central location right next to most everything. Mason-Abbot is right by Snyder-phillips cafeteria (the best cafeteria on campus aside from brody). I don’t know about transfer orientation, but orientation in general is pretty long, kinda boring but if you talk to other students at your AOP it goes by a lot quicker. For me, they just went through a lot of things that I already knew (but some I didn’t). I also registered for classes.

Had my orientation today, and I got my classes all set. It was nice to see I got done @2:30 rather than 6, like the guidebook had indicated. I’m getting more excited to start this fall.

Oh, and not going to lie, but the tuition payments seem like a pain in the @$$. Probably because of so much $$$ involved, but it’s totally different from my CC, that’s for sure :D

Wow, only 3 more weeks until move-in day. August is going to be crazy for sure trying to prep for MSU.

Haha, best of luck with everything. We all know what it’s like to be the new kid on the block, so to speak, so let us know if you need anything or have any questions :).

Just found out that I’ll be in Abbot Hall, so that should be fun. Good thing for me is that most of my classes are within 5-10 min max walk of my dorm, so I greatly enjoy that fact :).

One complaint: my move-in time is very early (8-1030 am), which kind of sucks. However, I understand it so move-in day won’t be an absolute zoo.

I actually had a move-in time that was very early too. It was nice because I was pretty much done by the time the rush came. Trust me, it’s way better to have it early than late.

I appreciate that, though I think that would be nice getting it out of the way. Should be interesting to see it get busy once it gets past noon.

A brief update through one week in :):

-Mason/Abbot (I’m in Abbot) has been fun. Though it could be a bit more social but I’m slowly meeting new people in my floor. Rooms were fine, and bathrooms are clean,

-Love Snyder Phillips dining hall because it’s so close! I’ll have to give Brody a try though.

-Went to the MSU/Youngstown State game last night, had a good time.

-Classes are going well. A lot of syllabus talk the first few days, makes for an easy Labor day weekend :)

-Having a good time so far at least :)
